Dear Everyone - I've had IBS d for years and been to many docs and tried tons of meds. Finally went to a top specialist at Mass. Gen'l thinking I might get the latest advice on treatment and what does he recommend????? Citrucel!!! 2 tbsps. morning and night. I'm trying, but gagging my way through it. Have only been on for 3 days and he wants me to wait 3 weeks before calling him. Has anyone had success with this and why does it take so long to act and have I just been led down another one-way street? Also, would Fibercon or a pill have the same effect, or are they different in material???Thank you!Libbys

Citrucel recently came out with a pill, so that can allow you to take what the dr wants without having to drink the stuff.Fibercon is a different fiber, but it is like Citrucel in that it is nonfermentable, so is less likely to cause excess gas problems.Usually fiber is NOT a quick fix thing and it takes awhile for you body to get better using fiber if it is going to work for you.The good news is daily fiber therapy does help alot of people with IBS, and if it does there is a very low risk of side effects from the treatment.K.------------------I have no financial, academic, or any other stake in any commercial product mentioned by me.My story and what worked for me in greatly easing my IBS: http://www.ibsgroup.org/ubb/Forum17/HTML/000015.html

Thanks, Kmottus, I certainly will look for the pill. If the doc suggested two tbsps. am and pm, how much would that be in pill form... either with Citrucel or Fibercon?Libbys

I bought the Citrucel tablets about a week ago at Wal Mart. (My pharmacy could not even find in their system that they were on the market--go figure.) The pills are much easier to take than the liquid. I always drink a lot of water with them to prevent constipation. It took awhile for my body to get adjusted when I first started taking fiber, but it does help quite a bit for me (I'm both D and C.) Citrucel is the only "constant" I have in treating my IBS (I only take anti-spasmodics as needed.) Metamucil did cause more gas for me.

I had taken about 3/4 of the "plastic scoop" (probably about 2 TBLSP) in the powder form with a full glass of water (16 oz.)at night. I now take two tablets nightly with 16 oz. of water. Two tablets are suggested for adults.

I take the wonderful tasting cirtucel powder, it has a aquired taste, I found it best to down it like a shot of whiskey. But have you noticed any increase in regularity fromit, the stuff never really works all that great for me, I have tried more nautral fiber and it helps more.

Sorry, one more addition: 2 Tablets per dose, I believe can be taken up to 6 times per day.

Since taking the tablets, regularity has improved. Not sure why other than maybe I can't always down all of the mixed stuff. Although I do have some bad days, regularity is much better when I take Citrucel. I haven't taken anything else than Metamucil, so I can't compare it to any other kind of fiber.

I am IBS-C. My new G.I. doctor recommended Citrucel and I was taking 1-2 tbsp. at night as he suggested. It works to a degree, along with lots of water and magnesium oxide(800 mg) per day. For me, it just seems no matter what I take I can only go so much. it does help though as it provides the stimulus I need to go in the morning. I now don't take it every day or I will just back up too much because I just don't go enough to keep taking Fiber every day. I have been taking this for 3 months and I will continue to take it; it does have its place but it is not as good as I would have hoped. I would certainly try it as he prescribed as it may really help you alot. Everyone is different.

I've been using Citrucel for about a year. I like the tablets better. But after reading the post about FiberCon, I tried 2 tablets this morning and figure I will go ahead with my usual 2 tablets of citrucel in the eve. However, I've noticed much more gas today and it's been making me "go" in little spurts. I don't like that. I'll probably go back to my regular routine tomorrow of the magnesium,citrucel,etc. and nix the FiberCon.

Hey all, I have two questions... where can i find the citrucel tablets..they only have the powder form at CVS and Genovese... also what forms of magnesiunm are best/most gentle.. I'll try anything, thanks so much

For the Doctor to only recommend Citrucel is a surprise. It may take a bit more to manage symptoms. Depending on your symptoms, you may have to watch your diet, avoid trigger foods, practice relaxation techniques, and exercise regularly. The citrucel is important, but is only a start.AZ

They are fairly new and I don't know if it's distributed everywhere.Wal~mat and the Eckerds here have had them on the shelves.It may take asking the pharmacist about them. Where I live (in Oklahoma) I've found the citrucel tabs at Walgreens, DrugMart, Mays, and MedX.
