For the past week, I have been having problems with my GERD and have also been passing a ton of gas. Sometimes it burns when I pass the gas. Does anyone know what causes this and/or why? Is it a food intolerance, too much acid in my stomach, or something else? I would appreciate everyones insight.

One possibility is that the gas (nor food nor acid) is not responsible. The anal nerves are simply hypersensitive and are reacting inappropriately.

Hi. Hate to say it, but sometimes I have what I call "lava gas" - it's like hot, bubbling gas coming from a volcano! Other times I have "normal" gas, just the regular toot kind. I would love to know what causes it to be different - but I can actually feel heat from it. I can get it from eating the same food I always eat too, so it's a mystery. It scares me more than the regular kind, because I'm more afraid of diarrhea when I have it. Taking Caltrate has not made any difference in my having this symptom. I hope somebody else will have some good advice for you. ------------------Laurie - D

Laurie, I have the same thing and have always wondered what causes it vs. just regular gas. Once in a while I get what griffen describes but I'm at a loss to know why except for flux's explanation. ------------------A little unconditional love can make your whole day!Jackie(C-type)
