Hello all,I'm normally a mild IBS-D (triggered by excess insoluble fiber and extra spicy foods), so I never thought I'd post something like this, but here goes.11 days ago, one of my best friends got married and in order to enjoy the reception food without worries, I had a good portion of white rice the night before and took some Immodium. Everything went fine.I didn't think about it for quite a while - but the "rebound D" never came. So I started adding small amounts of fruit at first, then had a bowl of bran cereal.. Now, its the morning of the 10th day - I've eaten probably 25-30 servings of fresh fruit, had 3 huge salads, some Burger King, yesterday morning a cup of dried fruit (prunes and apricots), and last night Taco Bell bean burritos. (All guaranteed IBS killers) Any of these would normally equal 3-6 trips to the bathroom, but now nothing.I feel horridly full and bloated - actually have gained over 5 lbs. I want to avoid a "nuclear reaction" from something like Ex-Lax because I work as a waitress and can't spend a long time in the bathroom at work without supervisor really on my case.Should I:See a doctor? (worried about something icky like an enema)Try something like Fibercon or Metamucil?Wait it out?Just looking for answersL

WsWannabe You sound like your having an awful time with your bowels. Are you passing any gas at all? Your best bet is to try a Fleets Enema as soon as possible. When you use a Fleets Enema it will work faster than using Milk of Magnesia or Ex Lax. The enema will work to clean out your bowels. If this does not work another option to try is Mag Citrate, a bowel cleanser you drink and get results within hours. From my experience these methods tend to get your bowels rolling. Mag Citrate is available over the counter at your local store pharmacy. If none of these methods work for you, its probably a good idea to seek medical help. Good luck! Wendi

L, if you haven't gone in ten days I would see the doctor and be checked out. An obtruction can be a serious problem. He may also have a tip for getting the system going again. Good luck.------------------Moderator of the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Anxiety and Hypnotherapy forumI work with Mike and the IBS Audio Program. www.ibshealth.com www.ibsaudioprogram.com

I would go see your doctor to be sure but it could just be post-Imodium sluggishness. I'm IBS-D and the first time I ever took Imodium, I didn't 'go' for a fortnight - I started to think I would never go again. Any time I overdo the Imodium, I have several portions of brown rice and several glasses of water - I find that more effective than fruit and salad.

Uncle Sam cereal with rice milk - it gives me D when I'm normally prone to C, so it may work for you. In me the D starts in 4 to 6 hours. Try it on your day off, or perhaps after work? Good luck.

Well,Still nothing today.Tomorrow I'll try my absolute worst trigger food - jalapeno peppers - for dinner after work. I've traced the only 'accidents' I've ever had to them. Usually, whenever I eat them in any amount (5 of the poppers from Jack in the Box or topped on a foot long Subway sub) I get a massive under a minute "warning time" D attack within the hour. It was because of this that I used to have a "training potty" (seat over a removable bucket thing) stowed in my car. I know its been suggested here before - and I already had tinted windows, so it made sense for long road trips. If this doesn't work, I guess I'll talk to my doctor. I'm just scared of using an enema. Thanks for the responses,L

I'm a D-type, always, but I had to do 2 enemas the morning of my colonoscopy, as part of my prep. I wasn't too thrilled with the idea, but really, it wasn't that bad. My mom was kind enough to get it and the other stuff I needed for me. I think the embarrassment I'd have about buying it is probably worse than the experience of using the enema. Rather than give yourself acid D from peppers, why not try a simple saltwater enema first?
