Sometimes they think that long term constipation, particularly with straining may make you more prone to having problems with hemorrhoids and diverticuli. The pouches can become infected, but they don't have to. Some people have them and they never act up, but if they get infected it can be dangerous.Pretty much all humans eventually get diverticuli so it isn't only if you are severely constipated, but sometimes they think constipation may make you get more of them or get them sooner than you would if you were regular. But it doesn't make you more prone to food poisoning or getting stomach viruses if that is what you mean by infections.

I suffer from hemorrhoids a lot and a sore bottom, when i do,i use the ointment my GP has prescribed and also i use ice from the freezer on them,i have not had any infections in the rectal area or suffered from any other ones on a regular basis.I suppose the answer is not to strain, but its so difficult.I have had a thrombosis hemorrhoid on a few occassions, which is, i have been told, a large swollen lump full of blood on your bottom, its extremely painful!

Hi everyone. I have been constipated as long as I can remember. Now I am 27 and am suffering with rectal ulcers that are very painful. I also had cecum ulcers which are ulcers in the end of the colon near the appendix, and the doctors don't know why but they seem to have healed. I can't get these damn rectal ulcers gone though and its driving me crazy.Does anyone else deal with anal fissures or ulcers in the rectum? I have had hemmeroids since I was a teenager, but as of last year, the hemmies no longer bother me, its the ulcer that feels like a hole in my rectum that hurts like crazy when I pass a firm stool. So I am struggling to keep the BMs soft which is a trial and error guessing game it seems with products like citrucel, miralax, colace, etc.

I suffer from hemorrhoids occ but the worst is fissures. They never heal. Always make sure you lubricate your anal area before a BM to keep from tearing further. Also, I think it's a good idea to use wet wipes & be gentle.
