Caveman Diet?

957 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Kathleen M.
I just had this recommended to me by another person with lifelong GI problems. He said I would know in 48hrs of doing this whether my problems (abdominal pain, bloating, and cramps) were due to food allergies or not.Anybody have any comments? Basically you eat ONLY meat and veggies. No fruit or sugars.Chris

i tried lean chicken and bottled water only and noticed a big improvement within 48hrs. you might want to try that as opposed to eating any meat.
I had a Doctor that believed in Candida yeast tell me to use that, but he said I should stay on it for three months, no way could I give up everything for three months. I eventually gave up most of carbs. I was eating and now drink my 6 big or 8 small glasses of water a day. It helps with C and G. Altho still have the odor problem altho I don't have nearly as much gas.....------------------Prayer doesn't change God , it changes the one who prays..C type, with G
http://www.ibsgroup.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/007116.html Check out this posting....Although it doesn't only refer to the caveman diet.I tried it for 6 weeks and then added foods back in over the course of about 4 months..its really hard to follow and was very helpful, but I lost too much weight. It helped me determine that I was overeating certain things like wheat and corn that enhanced my IBS.I'm hoping MNL will answer your questions, but I think it takes considerably longer than 48 hours on the caveman diet (AKA the elimination diet I think) to determine any cause and effects. I think its something like 4 to 6 weeks on the diet..it took me three weeks to come out of my addiction to sugar! Although I appear to have some of it back I'm not nearly as bad....most of you probably don't beleive me given my recent postings about chocolate eggs
By the way I also ate rice and rice products on the elimination diet..Also I think you need to understand that there is a big difference between food allergies and food sensitivities...I'm sure Mike (MNL) will be here soon to give us the scientific explanation..but basically one is a severe reaction like hives or swelling and the other occurs over a longer period of time due to a build up...there may be a better way of explaining this? If you do a search on food allergies you are sure to come up with one of MikeNoLomotil's long and informative postings about this.[This message has been edited by jane93 (edited 03-22-2001).]

If I remember Mike NL's posts it's like a week tops on the elimination diet. If you eat the elimination diet and nothing else for 4-6 weeks you risk becoming intolerant of the few things you are eating.Since foods only stay in your system 72 hours you should start seeing results pretty quickly. Now the cravings are another issue, but symptoms other than drooling all over the glass on the vending machine should go away fairly quickly. As long as you're really sticking to the elimination diet. The cravings may last more than 72 hours, but things like diarrhea, bloating, excessive farting, etc should stop fairly quickly.K.------------------I have no financial, academic, or any other stake in any commercial product mentioned by me.My story and what worked for me in greatly easing my IBS: http://www.ibsgroup.org/ubb/Forum17/HTML/000015.html
