After 8 months and a weight loss of 50 pounds my GI dr sent me for 2nd CT Scan of abdomen and pelvis. There are still 4 stones in my appendix and some of my symptoms and lack of response to "conventional" IBS treatment ...I am scheduled for a laproscopic removal of my appendix next Friday. The surgeon that I work for is doing my surgery so he's gonna take a look around for adheshions while he is in there. I have done some research and while I do not deny having IBS, I have felt all along that something else was just wrong. Chronic appendicitis is real and hard to diagnois but here is hoping it will help some of my symptoms.Has anyone else had this? Anyone else had a lapap? Happy Thanksgiving!

FYI............one of the things the appendix does, is contain the intestinal flora bacteria starter........so when u r sick or whatever & ur system flora gets cleaned out, when u get better, the appendix re-seeds the intestines with these very necessary bacteria..........there are all sorts of things that can cause the appendix to b unwell.........maybe even a low grade infection.........b careful.....

Thank you for the reply. There are four stones in my appendix that were seen in April and the radiologist thought it was barium from previous tests and that they may resolve. Repeat scan this week showed 7 months later still there and 2 increasing in size. So surgical removal under these circumstances is warranted as I am at much higher risk of accute attack and rupture. If the stones are inpacted fecal material and it ruptures I could be in big trouble with perotinitis or sepsis....not gonna risk that .

I too am having my appendix removed for chronic appendicitis. I have had IBS for most of my life but in the last year I have had lower right sided pain, especially when bloated. I assumed it was cysts on my right ovary which have been there for a few years. A few nights I have almost gone to the emergency with the pain but then it subsided. Finally had a CT scan which showed inflammation in and around my appendix. How did things turn out for you? Hope all is well!
