hi all, please excuse my ignorance as i'm new to the board, can someone explain to me why there are such high hopes for cilansetron despite there being other previous 5-HT3 meds?Apologies again for asking what is probably a stupid question
Lotronex, the only 5-HT3 drug currently available specifically for IBS-D, is only available under a limited availability program for women in the US. Cilansetron has the potential to be prescribed to both men and women worldwide.Jeff
I think there is also hope that Cilansetron or another 5-HT3 med will work better, relieve more symptoms, than Lotronex. But the barriers for men, issues with doctors and insurance companies, with Lotronex are huge.
