Hi,I've got my colonoscopy tommorrow morning and I took my Fleet prep this morning, managed to keep it down for 20 minutes and puked it up. 3 hours later and nothing seems to be happening. Does anyone know what I should do? This is my first colonoscopy so I am not too sure. I rang the hospital and spoke to the receptionist but she didn't sound too certain when she said just to take the 2nd dose in the evening as normal.I'm really worried now - at least it is taking my mind off the actual procedure tommorrow!!ThanksKatie

I've got my first colonoscopy tomorrow too, but I was told to take my prep at 5pm and 7pm. I would think that if you threw it up, it's not working because it's not in your system. It might be a good idea to purchase another one just in case. Maybe try phoning again and hope you get someone other than the unsure receptionist. Or tell her you want to speak to the doctor (make sure he/she phones you back!) I think it's a good time to be persistent about this. Fiona

Hi tumtum,I would try to phone the hospital again and see if you can get the dr. , an assistant or the nurses who work at the department. If you have difficulties convincing the receptionist you really need to speak to any of them, tell her that you're very worried you won't be completely cleaned out which is essential for a colonoscopy. Hope you get an answer soon,Fay

Go and get some Magnesium Citrate and make sure it is cold. Take that when you are supposed to take the next bottle of fleet. Then take 2 ducolax pills before you go to bed and get a suppository for the next morning. Believe me this will work and is ok to take. I have had 2 colonscopies and 2 barium enemas and this is the prep I prefer to use, it cleans me out the best and I can keep the prep down. You are cleaned out when things start running clear so you don't need to take anymore prep if that happens. Also make sure you drink plenty of water before, and during the prep. Stop the water when you are cleaned out because it will just make you go more. Pick up some baby wipes as well because your behind is gonna get sore. Good Luck with this.

CALL YOUR DR RIGHT AWAY and see what he says! His office should have an answering service that can page him if he is not in...this is something that needs HIS/HER opinion, not that of an uninformed hospital receptionist.I threw up a bellyful of GoLytely, with less time before my colonoscopy. He said I would not be cleaned out in time, and we had to reschedule. You have more time before your procedure and are using a different prep, so your situation may be different. It would be horrible for you to take the later dose, or take other things too, and go in for the procedure and not be clean enough!PLEASE, CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR!!

A galpal of mine has had 3 colonoscp. and she says the FLEET prep (ginger lemon) is the most vile tasting stuff there is and it makes her puke too. She mixes it with juice. But there ARE other laxatives, magnesium citrate (in a green soda bottle) tastes like citrus-flavored soda water & it will definitely clean you out.My husband just did this, and he was told totake it at 5 & 8 PM the night before. And to take the laxative with a LARGE glass of water and to drink 3 glasses of water before bed. Do NOT take laxatives in pill form, as they need to go through your GI tract to be digested. The clear liquid fast & liquid laxatives flush your GI tract & only your kidneys are processing the liquids so your colon is CLEAN. NO PILLS.
