When you call to make an appointment make sure to ask if they put you to sleep or just on twilight drugs for the procedure. If it's just twilight drugs? Call someone else. When they put you out? The procedure is a breeze, believe it or not. One of the easiest procedures I've ever done.
Well, from what I've read, they are moving away from very intensive exams as it can be diagnosed usually by history. If you are
not showing red flags, they may feel you don't need more intense tests.
I've had three colonoscopies done already, all without being drugged. It was interesting to watch and I enjoyed talking with my Doctors during it.
They do have you plugged in and if you decide you want to be knocked out, they will do it. Mine have all been half water (underwater colonoscopy) and half gas.
Yeah, I don't like having much anesthesia. Everyone's different. I've had so many digestive problems for so many years I am really curious to see what it looks like in there. But everyone's different. Do your own colonoscopy the way you want it, or not. You don't have to follow my advice or anyone else's.
Whether you need a colonoscopy or not is something to discuss with your doc. They primarily detect cancer and precancerous polyps. They are not without risk. Sometimes they are not properly disinfected and they can perforate the colon (though that risk is low).
