Hi all I have been battling IBS and Acid Reflux. Have had many test, last ones were colonoscopy and EUS two years ago. Saw my gastroenterologist last week. My concern is that for about three years, I was always constipated but now every now and then I have explosive diarrhea or go many times with loose stools. My doctor says that IBS can switch from one to the other but I wouldn't call my situation switching back and forth since I have been constipated for almost 3 years but now getting diarrhea in between more often. Does anyone else have this?

Ibs changes from time to time. Your constipation turned into diarrhea. Now you're treated as ibs-d. So you may take glutamine for that purpose. Glutamine controls both sides.it helps also to abdominal pain.I have taken glutamine for 4 months.

Thanks.

Yes. I know that I've post about this before, but I had ibs-C for years, which gradually got worse. It got to the point where I was never going, even after combining Miralax and senna. During the years, before it got that bad, I would sometimes have an episode of C end with D, but then it quickly went back to C.

When I actually got to where I was not going at all, it culminated in an episode of D that continued awhile. Ever since then, I have had what I would label ibs-A, but it is D a larger percentage of the time than C. On the other hand, C and being backed up seems to drive the swing to D.

I'll stop before I digress too far away from the subject.

But I definitely experienced a switch in the nature of my ibs, after it was the same for a long time. In hindsight, I had ibs way back in grade school, and back then my problem was always D and never C, so I guess it has switched more than once in my life.
