I didn't want to say anything, am a bit superstitious
... but I think my IBS symptoms are gone! I did have days with normal stools before, but this time even the gas seems to be gone. The colour of the stools has turned to brown and dark brown again and the consistency is good to hard. What makes me think it might be gone is the absence of gas - farts that all these months had not gone away. Should I hope? I don't know...I want to be happy about this and enjoy my "normality" but am afraid it will come back.

Yeah I've been diagnosed 6 months ago :)All good so far....i AM enjoying it, no worries. I heard about this remission periods. I was on a trip last week out of the country and suddenly everything changed. I thought once I came home it would start again but it didn't. I did have good weeks before...as in no D but the gas was always there, even if in smaller quantities. But now it seems almost gone and so are the cramps in the evening. I started to drink coffee again and enjoy a glass of wine every night. If it indeed went in remission I hope it lasts for at least as long as IBS was here...lol...this would be fair enough

One of the Doctors that I contacted sent me some info which stated that "post infectious IBS usually goes of it's own accord after 1-2 years". Could it be this? I know several people who suffered from it for about this time, did nothing special to cure it, and it went away in about this time period. I'm hoping that this will happen for me although I'm trying to short circuit the process.

Could very well be I have felt almost 100% everyday for quite a while still have an off day every once and a while. I think mine is post infectious and have had it almost 2 years and I feel about normal again my BM's are usually normal and no real issues. I never really took anything except a Immodium every once and a while and some probiotics which never really did anything. I hope it is gone for good for you so you can start enjoying life again. Cheers

After the first really bad episode I have to say it did go better and better. I don't even know if it was the GI infection or something else, because there were too many things in my life that could have triggered it. I had been abroad for 2 years to study. During these 2 years I've had probably the worst time of my life. I hated that place and the people but I couldn't go without losing one year in uni. I also didn't go along with the food at all. I started to put on weight and I didn't even know why. I stopped eating and went with an empty stomach at bed at night but still didn't lose any weight. I was so stressed all the time and I was working so hard that I ended up not knowing when it was night and when it was day. I wanted really high grades and I did manage the first year but the second year we had this tutor who was just really bluntly and obviously hating foreigners. I felt so helpless and frustrated and I started to work even more. I ended up drinking about 6 red bulls a day in order to stay awake and work on the projects
I couldn't eat anything else but toast...the rest of the food was just disgusting
And I was still getting fat too
) ....Now...one day before leaving that horrible place and flying back home I was so happy, I went out to some kind of mexican restaurant (if I can call it so) and had a spicy chicken and a beer. My stomach started hurting after the first bite, but I was so hungry I just ate it all LOL . I went back home and I started to feel more and more sick, my belly was hurting right in the center, I was really bloated and it was hurting so much that I couldn't even more. I also thought I was having a fever. So next day I had diarrhea. I took an immodium cause I had to fly and didn't want an incident on the plane. When I came home the pain continued but no D for a few days, just normal poo. Then D again, loose stools and so on. The imodium wasn't helping at all. Was giving me bad episodes of D after the effect was gone. Went to the doctor...blah blah ... the rest is history. LOL I was given an anti-spasmodic and this took away those horrible cramps and even when I stopped taking it they didn't come back but the gas/farts in the evening and the loose and weird stools stayed. So then I stopped taking the BC pills and things went better and better for me, no D anymore but still farts in the evening and morning and some loose stools. .... So this is the whole story. If you ask me, I think it was a combination of factors: the GI infection, the BC pill and all the stress I was under for the last year in that country.
