Just wanted to thank you for taking time out to send me a personal email. Think I understand a bit better about what you are saying re gastrin, histamine and HCl esp with regard to treating symptoms and not root cause. I've have tried over the last 20yrs to find a cause but failed. I suspect my diet could be better-I hate fats-almost any sort...don't eat butter/marg or cream etc. I am supposedly lactose intolerant. I love vinegar-I could drink it .... that and HP sauce. I don't of course but would like to. I like wine but think this makes me worse but the odd gin seems to be ok. Do we love the things that make us worse or do we just think that the things we like cause us to be ill. Sometimes I,m really strict with myself but the difference is marginal and to adhere to a really punishing diet when you don't eat very much anyway adds to the misery. I am anxious ++-they nearly didn't do my sigmoidoscopy this week as my ht rate was racing++ but it wasn't nerves due to the procedure but rather just being in company at 9am and worried about disgracing myself.

Petra, I have tried adding HCL capsules to my diet on crstar's recommendation. It didn't do anything noticable for me. My thinking is that if you have C maybe adding HCL (Hydrochloric acid) could help break down the food but I can't see how it would benefit a D sufferor?I hear you on the whole diet thing. Some people have great success with exclusionary diets, lactos free, wheet free, etc. Unfortunately for many of us the benefits are minor, I am one of them. The benefits of such a "punishing" diet (IMO) are so mynute that I no-longer worry about such things. I have a healthy low-fat diet as it is and I'm sticking to it. If I feel like a glass of wine with my meal then thats what im going to have, I doubt its going to make me feel much worse then I usually do. It makes no sense sticking to something that isn't really helping you.Have you tried organic apple cider vinegar? I take a straight shot of it every couple days, definitely helps settle my stomach a bit and is good for your skin.Don't worry so much about the tests, they are part of the program and help the Dr's figure out what is wrong....well atleast try to figure out whats wrong. I have had them all done and there not that bad. I once tried a natural cleanse to see if that would help me by chuging a gallon of piping hot salt water every morning (which immedietly flushes out your system) so I was used to the preps.

for those of u who think betaine hydrochloride is the same stuff as i've been talking about, let me clear this up............it is not the same at all..........i took the betaine for over 8mos & it did very little for me...........when i talk about HCl, it is the actual chemical, not a powder.........i asked my dr what was the difference between the betaine & HCl...........he said, that if ur stomach was capable of making HCl on it's own, but for whatever reason, it isn't, then it will help..........BUT........& this is a big but........if ur stomach is incapable of making the necessary HCl, then u need the real stuff......i know that when i looked it up, everywhere i looked, they used both terms interchangeably..........& this is wrong..........very, very wrong......
