discomfort right side colon

I have a lot of discomfort (Pressure) on the right side of colon. Also pressure on rectum. Also, sometimes can feel it move up to the transverse colon just below the ribs.I am at a loss what this is I have had all tests also 3 colonoscopies in last three years. The GI doctor says it is gas and eat more fiber and metamucil. I am IBS C and fiber seems to give me pain. I do not understand why it is mostly right side discomfort.I do not seem to have much pain just the unbearable discomfort. Also if I finally pass some gas It will go away. Please has anyone else experienced this. I am so afraid I have a more serious disease. caeli

This is such a common symptom you need not worry! It just proves that you have excess gas passing through your large intestine. You doctor is not quite correct about the take more fibre thing. If you take too much too fast you will indeed get more gassy and hence more discomfort. Plus a lot of IBSers find fresh fruit and veges to be a trigger for their symptoms. I suggest you stick with the Metamucil but take a week off and then slowly reintroduce it. Take half a dose for a week, then a full dose etc. And you may never need the full 3 doses..just let your bowel see what works for it. Oh and if you take your dose at the same time every day this will help prevent some of those symptoms you describe too.

I have the same pain....also in my lower back...a lot of pressure. It's as if you want to stick yourself with something just to relieve it. The pain in my abdomen causes me a lot of pressure, but sometimes shar pain or a dull ache that is constantly there. Again, I think it is from gas. And, as we all know, gas can cause a lot of discomfort. Mine is almost constant, and I take a lot of meds that cause constipation. I wish I had an answer for you, but I am still searching too.

Maybe some trouble with gallbladder as it's on the right side as well? I never have pain on the right side, always on the left.
