Hi all!I don't yet have a firm IBS diagnosis, as I've not gone through any testing yet. For now, my diagnosis is based on my symptoms and I am being treated with Levbid. The worst part of this is the distended abdomen. I thought I was pregnant, but a blood test came back negative. In the morning, I look about 3 months pregnant, by the evening I look 5 months pregnant. It is very hard on my back, considering it has come on so fast, and it is seriously painful. Does anyone know if the Levbid is supposed to take care of this, or do I need to do something else? I also have no wardrobe for such a bloated belly except my maternity stuff from being pregnant with my daughter.Anyw help is appreciated, I feel I know so little about anything!ThanksChristina

Have you seen a gastroenterologist or did you see your primary care physician?

HI Dee!I have yet only seen my primary care physician...I'm going back on Apr. 2nd and then she will probably refer me to a gastroenterologist for testing...The Levbid seems to be doing very little, except giving me insomnia - ACK!Christina

Twin:No, I usually have 4+ BMs per day! That is a lot for me, not normal, and they range in consistency. So I'm back to square one! Thanks for the thought tho, perhaps I am still backed up even with going that many times per day. I don't really know, I just hate it when a doctor shoves medicine at you and doesn't really tell you what it will do for you, or how to solve your current dillemma!Christina

You actually can still be going to the bathroom and still be backed up. But I'm probably wrong...I thought that was another symptom of IBS?The feeling of incomplete evacuation. One of the doctors I have seen told me that was a "classic symptom" of IBS.

Hi!I mostly lurk here. I had terrible problems with bloating. It's still not completely under control, but it's considerably better since I cut out as much fiber of any kind from my diet. So I eat a lot of white bread, bagels, white rice etc. Hardly any fruit or veggies.May not be "healthy" but neither is being miserable all day.

Can I ask a gross question? When you go a lot, like you said, is it long and thin?Having a swollen belly like that is horrible. Once I had it so badly that I looked 9 months pregnant with twins and had to go to the hospital. I couldn't even get up and down, or bendover or anything. Then it all came out for about four hours in the hospital. It was a nightmare.

I dunno know about you, but for me, the distention is really scary. I dont bloat all over, but instead have big pockets of trapped gas that distend my belly in specific areas, mostly the lower right abdomen. I had many restless nights worrying what caused it. For me, my diet was the big reason for the trapped gas, as I find triggers I notice the distention going away slowly...

I have a small frame (male) -170 lbs., but wear a size 38 in waist from the dist. abdominn Cafeinne is a bigger trigger for me and also causes diaheria. I also noticed that fiber stops the diaheria but causses the belly to swell up.

I have a distended abdomen so often, and I too look pregnant.I hate it.I tried a really low carb diet which worked for a long time. Then I tried a lot of fibre because I was always constipated, which made me go well. I do, however still swell up a lot of the time, even when I am regular.Of all the research I've done, there is nothing to help! It has to do with visceral nerve perception - or something like that. Any sort of gas in people like us will feel 1000 times worse, and the gut muscles distend to move away from what is irritating them.If anyone solves it, let me know!Lisa

I've given up trying to bring the distention down lol, I'm just avoiding what foods that cause bloating I am going to try a colon cleanse though see if that helps.....Omeprozale, probiotics a digestive enzyme rich diet, im avoiding milk gluten and general bloaty thing's but it's just ridiculous. When I do bloat, (rare) I am basically immobilised with pain so I just need to avoid food trigger's.Unfortunately steak, my favourite food is one of the culprits.....In a way I can be thankful because i'm eating a lot healthier now, and generally look after my body more so their are some positives! This seems to be less common in men.....
