Over the past Five or so years my condition had become progressively worce and at first I couldn't figure out why.My marriage was at the same time becoming the same. but I guess what with one thing and another, I never tied the two together until now that is.I have been divorced now since January, and I have to say I have noticed a marked improvement.I am getting fewer cramps for a start, and in general I am feeling a whole lot better.

I notice you live in Suffolk.
I have a friend who lives in Lowestoft. She needs knee surgey and is in terrible pain but has to wait a year for the surgery. That makes me wonder how long someone with IBS has to wait to see a motility specialist in the UK.

I was also in the same boat. Getting more ill until I was separated for a couple of years. The best (and only)Christmas present I ever got from my ex was this past year-my divorce from him became final on the 25th of December. I remarried a wonderful man on Feb 29th, and I haven't felt this great in years. IBS really plays havoc on the body when you're mind is not well. I'm glad that although a divorce is sad, you are getting well because of it.

I am happily married for the most part but just the stress of having another person around that might be upset by what you do or don't do is difficult. I feel better when my husband is gone on business and no one is there to second guess what I do. I can eat/sleep/clean/waste time whenever I want to. And I have had IBS exactly for as long as I started dating and then married my husband. He is really sweet about it though. I think that since we are prone to be stressed (IBSers) and it comes out in our gut, any marital stress, even everyday stuff, must have its consequences.

Stress of a bad marriage would make IBS worse but the comfort of a supportive spouse would be great. I feel so alone when I get sick and nobody is around. I'm single and if I get married he marries me and all my symptoms and fears.
