Okay so I am 17 years old. About a year ago i went to the doctors for this and i was told i had food poisoning and to take Tylenol.. yeah that helped a lot.. not. Okay so I am going to tell you how my day goes. I wake up and feel like im going to have a bm so i go into the bathroom and sometimes i will sit there for ten minutes just pushing but i get nothing. So i take a shower and head off to school. At school i get lower abdomen pains and sometimes i feel as though gas is trying to "push" itself out of me so i have to bend over to help relieve the pain. I am embarrassed in school as sometimes i feel like i smell really bad, sometimes people will be like ew someone farted but then some don't think it smells, and i just get really self conscious about it. But, this whole time at school i feel as though i need to have a bm and NOTHING will come out and if it does its like very small stools. Usually when I am able to go is around the time i get home from school but sometimes not even then and i end up not going that day. This really scares me because I don't know what it is. Ive considered it being IBS, but I thought you would get it in episodes and not everyday? I dont know. I've considered that I have a bowel obstruction, but then I thought, how would I have so much gas?? Please help me

Unlikely you have bowel obstruction as this usually results in fever, and sudden, intense pain so bad many people end up in the ER.What you need to do is go to a GI specialist (gastroenterologist.)You can't self diagnose yourself for a lot of reasons. The main reason being it could be something other than IBS. You can surf the net all year long, but the confusion and anxiety willsimply increase. It's possible that it's simply a low fiber diet. Most cases of constipationare due to lack of fiber in the diet. (Fruits, vegetables, whole wheat bread, beans, etc.) Also, exercise and drinking sufficient water helps too. IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. They first see if you have other diseasesthen once you do not and once the symptoms persist despite adding fiberinto the diet, they label you IBS.Don't hesitate. See a GI specialist.

As Sun said it is very dangerous to self diagnose... so... You need to talk to your parents and see a Dr about this hon. Don't be shy about it.. it's a normal bodily function that isn't working properly for you. And it happens to many, many people. You are not alone and please know you have plenty of company! This time at the Dr, tell him/her exactly what you told us here. Tell what your symptoms are and what a typical day is for you...etc. Be specific.. not vague. You might need a stool softener or some osmotics to get your regular. Ask the Dr what you can use (besides.. Tylenol.. As that won't help constipation which it sounds like you have.) (BTW, just FYI, usually food poisoning involves diarrhea not constipation.)So communicate very plainly & clearly with your parents & your Dr.Keep us posted if you want.
