I've finally decided to go to the doctor for my stomach problems. When going to the doctor, is it possible to go straight to a GI or would I have to be referred by a regular MD. I really dont want to waste money on a visit to a MD thats gonna charge me $200 dollars to give me an appointment to see some1 else.

Hi A-Man I think an answer to your question would be what kind of insurance do you have? I know with mine I can go anywhere to any specialist without referals. If you can I would get rid of the Primary Care it saves time and money. Good Luck and Merry Christmas. Sue

Hi. Don't bother with the regular MD he will send you to the GI doc. Do you have the Ask a Nurse program in your city? Some of the large metropolitan hospitals have that program. You call a toll free number and an RN will refer you to a number of docs and you take your pick. If you don't have the ask a nurse, then maybe ask a friend to give you the name of someone they consider reliable. Good luck and Merry Christmas!
