Hi everyone. Quick question:I have noticed that caesars (the drink, not the salad) have always eased my IBS symptoms. I always thought that it was the alcohol or the hot stuff that helped, but it dawned on me tonight that perhaps it is the tomato acid that is easing things. Does anybody know the answer to this? Thanks for anything you can give me!

It is unlikely that acid could make any difference as the stomach lives in acid. However, alcohol does have effects on gut motility (as well in the brain, of course). It is also possible, that it contains some chemical that has an effect. For example, salami contains phenylethylamine. But in general, the effects would be body wide not just limited to the gut.
