I've been on Zelmac for a couple of months now and got real help with constipation. As some of you will know,I had a minor mishap with some insecticide last week(no harm done nor treatment necessary)Since that evening, the Zelmac seems to be no longer having any effect and I've been having problems with hard stools again.I'm sure it's not the insecticide as I only swallowed one very diluted mouthful, and that was almost a week ago now.I'm wondering if anyone else has been on Zelmac for a while and then found that it's effectiveness has eventually tailed off? This wouldn't surprise me - it's been my experience with so many drugs/natural remedies in the past.I'd be interested to know if anyone has had this problem with Zelmac?

actually, I would be more likely to wonder if being on it for a period of time would produce changes so you need to make other changes. I would ask novartis if I were you but I also don't think the research has been done. I went from IBS-C to IBS-D and this meant I had to make other changes in my routine and the fiber supplement I took.tom

I find if i take Zelmac for about a week it seems to stop working to, so I take a few days off then re-start it again. I don't find it above all the to end all drug, but I think it's helping me with the C....it's like any foods really. If you find one that makes you "go", then I eat that, then after a few days it stops making me "go" so I try another food, ONLY fruits and vegies but. I can't eat junk food or fried food. I KNOW I won't "go" if I do.

I stopped Zelmac for 4 months during the Dexloxiglumide trial and have just recently started taking it again. Its working REALLY well as far as the C and I find that 3mgs twice a day is better than 6. Maybe its something that just requires a rest once in awhile.

I know I can't do more than 6 mg. a day without its effectiveness diminishing. Sometimes I go down to just 3 mg. a day. I've heard that some people take a "Zelnorm holiday" where they go off it for several days and then it resumes its effectiveness when they get back on. Sometimes less is more with Zelnorm.
