electrogastrography, they suggest an ibs treatment.Comments?I am wondering why I never had this test.I had never heard of it until you posted this info on it.I would think that this would be a test that would be given to anyone with a suspected motility disorder.Especially if it is able to differentiate between IBS and Dyspepsia.

quote:Is that a new test?
No, it's been around for 40 years but only since the mid-80s was it begun to be used to check for motility problems related to dyspepsia.

It's not like an EKG that is available in every hospital, so most people with problems like these won't get tested.

From Julia web site:Motility StudiesELECTROGASTROGRAPHYThis test, or EGG as it is also called, is much like an EKG for the heart. Surface electrodes are pasted on the skin over the stomach and the electrical activity of the stomach is recorded. Abnormalities such as a fast rate, a slow rate or an irregular rate can be detected. If an abnormal pattern is detected, your doctor may be able to put on a drug to correct it.SMALL BOWEL MOTILITY In order to measure motility in the small bowel, a small tube must be placed into the small intestine via the mouth. Motility (i.e. contractions and relaxation) of the small bowel can then be measured. In the future, we may also be able to measure the electrical activity of the small intestine also. Again, this knowledge will enable you doctor to "tailor" therapy for your specific problem.

Who tried this?I remember that erythromycin have been use by Pimentel(if i'm rigth). This is the first I have heard of erythromycin being a motility drug.My last GI didn't want to give me Reglan because of all the negative side effects and the Zelnorm he prescribed gave me severe D.He never mentioned that their was another motility drug.
