quote:[The factors influencing on depression of patients [with] fibromyalgiasyndrome][Article in Korean]Taehan Kanho Hakhoe Chi. 2003 Aug;33(5):609-17.Sung KW, Shin IH, Lee KH.Department of Nursing, Catholic University of Daegu, Korea.kwseng###cataegu.ac.krPMID: 15314413PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to understand the depression ofpatients for Fibromyalgia Syndrome(FMS) and to identify the factorsinfluencing depression.METHOD: The instruments used here are Beck Depression Inventory indepression, the Korean Rheumatology Health Association' instruments inSelf-Efficacy. Also, Pain and Fatigue was measured by Visual Graphic RatingScale. The subject of study is 76 outpatients diagnosing FMS fromrheumatism specialists at C hospital in D city. The data has been collectedfrom Sep. lst to Sep. 30th in 2001. For the analysis of collected data, frequency analysis, independent t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson'scorrelation and multiple regression analysis were used for statisticalanalysis with SAS statistical program.RESULT: General characteristics showing statistically significantdifference in depression were age, education, occupation, gender, exerciseand sleep in the patients with FMS. Depression for the patients with FMShas negative correlation coefficients with Self-efficacy and ADL, andpositive correlation coefficients with Pain and Fatigue. The suitableregression form resulting from the multiple regression analysis toinvestigate the influencing factors of depression for the partients withFMS was expressed by y = 50.067 - 0.278x1 + 1.320x2 (x1 : Self-Efficacy x2: Fatigue) and R2 = 0.427.CONCLUSION: The factors influencing on depression of patients for FMS wasSelf-Efficacy, ADL, Pain, and Fatigue. Further study needs to be doneidentify methods of overcoming and presentation of depression in FMS.
