My symptoms are on and off...two weeks great a then two or three days bad. It usually hits me at night. Sometimes right after dinner and sometimes 3 hours after dinner. Last night I thought I was going to die with pain. My pain is usually not severe but this time it was combined with a regular BM and then the total water BM came out. The cramps stopped after that but tummy feels bruised. This has happened many times in the past 5 years. I go on the next day eating safe foods along with BRAT food and my day is fine. Besides the diagnosis of IBS-D do you have any ideas or is this just they way my life is going to be.

Dinner is often a bigger and heavier meal so that can set off diarrhea in IBS-D more than your other meals do. If you can, try splitting dinner into two meals so you don't eat too much at one time and see if 4 smaller meals a day works better than a larger dinner.Sounds pretty typical for IBS-D. If it only happens once in awhile it may be worth just living with it as you don't want to overly constipate yourself on days you don't need medications or supplements. It may be worth keeping a log and see if certain things (like when your dinner is greasier than usual) tend to be more likely to set it off.

Perhaps your evening meal is when you eat the most food and that prompts a BM response. Eating in general can prompt a BM in anyone. But what you describe sounds very familiar for an IBS'er. All the bestBQ

Some people have more problems with the morning wake up signals that prompt a lot of activity. Some people have more problems with the after eating signals.Morning problems is not a required symptom of IBS.They are both seen in IBS, some unlucky people have both morning and after meal problems. Both of these times are when everyone's colon is more active (not just IBSers, all humans)If you have after meal symptoms they are usually worst after large, heavy, rich or greasy meals, and most people eat more at dinner than they do breakfast or lunch. That is also why a lot of people have problems with restaurant meals which tend to be larger and greasier than anything you cook at home.
