I have been taking some Flax Seed Capsules and found they didn't do that much, so had a talk with my health nutritionist and she said to change to taking 1-2 dessertspoons of Flax Seed Oil each day. Because of the taste, I know buy the organic one and take that...one dessertspoon in the morning before my breakfast and one after lunch. With my magnesium and Vitamin B Complex AND exercise and drinking lots of water each day, I find that now, I am NOT accute I.B. C as my Gastro said I was...the Flax Seed Oil was the secret and "got things moving" so to speak. Please give it a try. It works...I don't eat any fatty food at all. That's my trigger so I've found out, so junk food it out for me. Lots of vegies and fruit and salads have replaced all that now and olive oil on my salads by the way. Good luck to all of us, that's what I say.

What a great post! So happy to see you doing the more "natural" things. I too, take flax seed oil in a spoon in stead of in capsules. The key is not having any other fats in our diet, so you are doing good on that. How do you keep away from junk foods? I am struggling with that now, not a usual temptation for me, though. One tip on the flax seed oil tasting bad---put it in yogurt and stir it up, tastes real creamy and delish, or just drink it straight from sppoon and follow by some apple juice. Glad you have found some things that are working for you! I am inspired to re-new my commitment to healthy eating to your posts. all the best!

Cordelia, I'm one of the lucky ones who loves to cook healty foods due to my husband having Leukaemia, so have never really had the taste for junk foods luckily. Once a month I may lash out and buy a Happy Meal but other than that, it's eating at home for me. I've had I.B. C. for most of my life now so have come to terms with NO junk food or fatty food or meat and so it goes....so far, so good. Do you eat meat?

About half an hour of taking my first dessertspoonfull of Flax Seed Oil I went to the toilet. No, it's not cause I don't eat junk food, because I never was that way. I also don't drink soft drinks either. Water it is for me and in the morning that first cup of coffee which helps to stimulate the bowel. I take Magnesium as well and each night two stool softeners which are harmless, in other words, they don't make the bowel dependant or have no laxative's in them. Try looking at your diets. I do believe if I've cooked a chinese stir fry then the next day, I'm much more comfortable. They fill you but you don't get that bloated feeling with that kind of food. What works for some, doesn't work for other's, unfortunately. Strange as it sounds.

Hi Denver, I take my Magnesium mid morning, on an empty tummy. It works for me that way, but you may find it that it works other times of the day for you. If you wake up in the morning and go to the toilet, by taking it at night, then stick with that. What works for one person may not work for others...frustrating as it may seem.

I don't understand: why is flax seed oil effective? I look at the label and it just says it is healthful fatty acids, etc. No fiber. So why does it work? I currently take fish oil for omega 3 acids or oils - it certainly doesn't help with C. Please clue me in. Thanks.

It's not that Flax Seed Oil makes you "go". It may be just that the Omega 3, 6 and 9 that's in the Flax Seed Oil balances out the body so that you have a better balance of chemicals. I also take Magnesium which the body cannot make by itself and I find that helps to. It all boils down to a chemical imbalance in the body and it's all natural health products to so you can't go wrong. When your're on a good thing, stick to it so that's what I'm doing. Only hope it lasts.

i suspect it's all about oils (flax, olive ) and water. i think any oil would work to grease the skids but mineral oil and cooking oils such as canola, safflower, sunflower, peanut, etc do not have the same positive effects on the system as do flax and olive. water is useful, clearly, to lubricate and i gather fiber is what we need to bulk up the stool. unfortunately, since fiber supps make me ill with bloat and cramps, i try to get my fiber in the food i eat. who knows? whole asian populations live off white rice and fish and go to the bathroom regularly so.......what the heck. anyway, good luck to all. g-

The flax seed oil and the magnesium really has helped me. I take the magnesium in the morning and the flax seed oil twice a day. I am taking the capsules that have the fiber in them. I am still taking the zelnorm as well. Spinoza, I think you should definetly try the flax seed oil and magnesium. I have suffered for 11 years now and finally something natural that works. Can't believe it took me this long to learn about it.I also think eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, and exercising help too. I know if I eat out to much the C is worse.
