For those trying to kick the sugar habit

A while ago I posted a thread about how avoiding sugar in my diet cured my IBS. Several people said that they couldn't possibly stop eating sugar. I was able to do it, and I think that you all can too, but if you can't, maybe this will help. Does anyone know anything about it? The URL is so long that I don't know if it will come through properly.Debbie======================================================TODAY'S TIP: CURB SUGAR ATTACKSBy Brigitte Mars, for healthshop.comAre you addicted to sweets? You may want to try the herb gymnema sylvestre to cut your cravings. The plant is also known as gurmar, which means "sugar killer" in Hindi. In both human and animal studies, gymnema is shown to inhibit the taste for sugar by blocking itsreceptor sites for a couple of hours. Those who are insulin-dependent should consult with a physician before using this supplement. http://healthshop.com/healthfact/default.a...=307&referid=tw

Debbie,Thanks for the info.......------------------LET'S ALL PRAY FOR A CURE TO THIS IBS SOON!BETTIE
Darla-The web address at the bottom of my post is for a website that sells it. Just in case someone's wondering, I included it simply because it was part of the information I quoted. I'm not trying to sell the product; in fact, I know nothing about it. You might also try health food stores or vitamin catalogs.DebbieDebbie
Two other simple sugar alternatives:brown rice syrup (has a malty flavour)stevia ( a herb )
Jane-I bought some fructose yesterday. I'm going to try my hand at baking with it, using brown rice flour or oat flour. The cookies at the health food store are too expensive.I haven't been able to find brown rice syrup, but I think I would like it. I'll call a few health food stores and see if they can get it.If anyone is interested, I have a few sources for sugar-free and/or low-carb recipes. I would love to share them and get some more sources myself.------------------~Debbie~Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is a quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."

Debbie & Jane, Please let me know where you can get this brown rice syrup. The health food store I went to doesn't have it! I love the Rice Dream ice cream, I can just imagine what it would be like with syrup.(even if it is brown rice, it's better than nothing)
Thanks!
