I have a severe gas problem and have read most discussions but do not have anything add as most of it has been covered. When you all say your gassy can you define gassy and how often we all fart so we can all compare openly, thank god for this BB! I fart on average every 10 mins with a lot of noise. What does your other half say or call you? My husband calls me beaufort after the wind scale. At work they think Im lazy because I work in an office and cannot bring myself to fart and always looking for an excuse to leave the office. As a tip for everyone thongs help reduce the noise but at 41 years old I am getting on a bit for things like that. Any humourous comments on that.

On a bad day I can fart for 10 minutes without break once I get started. BOY does it ever feel good. Most of the BAD gas is gas that will not move. OUCH!!! I generally take a walk outside and fart 5-10 times once an hour, push them out, then still have a few sneak out before an hour is up. On a really good day, I only get 1 or 2 a day. Since starting Aciphex for my ulcer, have had MANY light days. My husband and I joke about our farts. As long as we don't fluff the covers. I will interrupt a movie at home with "fart break" and we pause the movie, go walk around the block, have a cigarette, and I fart a lot. It is kind of nice. To get ME to fart outside, my normally VERY odiferous farter husband has started taking HIS farts out on the porch too! He doesn't fart often, but the cats leave home when he does! (Eyes burning, wishing for a gas mask......) ------------------Praying with Bettie for a cure for this NASTY IBS!

I fart every morning beginning about an hour after I wake up and have had my 1 cup of coffee and a cigarette. It feels great! I continue to do so often in rythmic like waves every 15 minutes or so for up to 2 hours. If I have a good day a poop or series of them will follow a series of farts, it is almost like the gas pushes the you know what down. I prefer to be alone when I do all this gas passing, I get up and go in the den and sometimes lie down on my side on the floor which really helps the gas come out. Usually that is it for the day unless I eat the wrong thing. My farts don't bother my husband who has his own class of them so even if he wanted to complain he couldn't. This BB is fantastic!!!
My farts are very noisey. I have gas all the time every day, day in and day out no matter what I do but usually for the rest of the day it is to far up to come out and isn't usually terribly painful.------------------Nancy[This message has been edited by GoesAlot (edited 11-10-1999).]

I wake up farting. I think that while asleep the gas bubbles congregate and when I stand up they start moving out!! Ironically, while at work (sitting at a desk mostly) I don't have much gas unless I have eaten something for lunch that is gassy. BUT, when I get home...especially when I lay down to go to sleep...WATCH OUT...the gas bubbles start moving again!! YIKES, poor hubby!!!------------------Happiness is a warm puppy. -Charles Schultz

I'm so glad you can all find some humor in this. I wish I could. Gas is ruining my life. My fiance is great, he acts like the farts don't smell and he always says "I wish I had IBS so I would have an excuse to fart". I really would like to find something to get rid of it, I guess nobody has any new suggestions?

I had a problem farting all the time. All the time. I wish I knew how to underline that. I had a terrible time in school as you probably can imagine. I drank vanilla ice cream and raw eggs for my stomach, or so I thought. I farted approximately once every five minutes. During lectures I would feel little bubbles rising in my stomach until I felt a big bubble form... No way to excuse yourself literally evey 5 minutes. The teachers would mention the need to open a few windows because of the "stuffiness", likewise the door. I felt extremely embarrassed, ashamed and guilty. Well, wouldn't you know a MAJOR part of the problem was my DAIRY ALLERGY... Now I am IBS free after having lived with it since the mid-1980's. I'll be 36 years old this month. When I wake up in the morning I fart once or twice and I'm done with it for the day. I never contemplated being IBS free. I fooled myself a few times, thinking I was free of IBS but I wasn't, it would only go away for a brief week or two, but all the trigger foods remained trigger foods. Now I've been eating a LOT of taboo foods without suffering any consequences. I'm someone who used to fart 15-20 times easily within a single hour, 24/7. PS: My sister advises me not to push it because I might bring it back. I don't see it coming back though. Wish me luck. It's my hope that everyone gets well, soon![This message has been edited by Kent (edited 11-11-1999).]

On a more serious note...and this is purely anecdotal...my husband, who seems to have more than his share of this problem, and complaints too, told me that when he was a kid, his folks wouldn't give him a lot of different foods because they said he was "allergic" ...he does get seasonal allergies like hay fever...but he says he used to react to chocolate and other things...I suspect he still may have some sort of food allergy but he's not interested in testing the theory..he doesn't have IBS..have also noticed that he is worse when he has carbonated beverages and he usually gulps anything he is drinking even water and has lots of cold liquids..it is possible that the culprit could be an allergy to something that you would not suspect..maybe testing is the way to go.

I think I should be tested. I also break out in hives. I feel like I'm allergic to everything. If I got tested would they tell me exactly what I am allergic to or would I have to find that out for myself? I think the gas also has to do with nerves.
