Yes, it is common and not all gases have odors.If you happen to have more methane producing bacteria than sulfur reducing bacteria you gas will be nearly odorless as methane by itself has no odor (nor do carbon dioxide, hydrogen, or nitrogen that are also common gases in farts).Natural gas has an odor (even though it is methane) because they add some hydrogen sulfide to it to make it smell so you will notice a leak.People tend to either be methane predominate or sulfur reducing predominate. Sometimes it will switch over. A few people are neither but most people are one or the other.
