first of all I would like to say thanks to each and everyone of you. This board has sparked hope in my heart; with the proper strategy I will probably reduce my symptomes and perhaps even erradicate them altogether. How ironic that the fist thread I have ever read was titled hopeless. I have been suffering for six years now from flatulence. No pain No constipation just excruciating humiliation. I simply offend all in every room I enter. MY desease did not develop on it's own. I literally gave my intestines no choice but to malfunction. After spending seven years recovering from a mentally abusive tyrant for a father (is this what is meant by brain gut connection)I began college, wich so inspired me I wanted to help other struggling youth. If that was not enough i enrolled in a boxing gym. Emotionally I was not ready. I didn't talk, I screamed. the inner city teens actually appreciated my energy and behaved around me. In the Gym my fury was impressive to the coaches. Not to mention fear and stress with taking on to much. I believe these extreme emotions some how were changing me. In order to lose weight and keep my strength i began a ridiculous diet of a hand full of grain for breakfast, vegetables for lunch and protein powder for weight lifters for dinner. I became gassy, that was 6 years ago. Did that powder feed the wrong bacteria and that is why I am suffering, or is it more likily my emotional life was the culprit? Since, I quit school, lost a home, a wife, and happiness.. Pressure or stress seems to be the biggest trigger for a eposode. It just leaks out of me, I don't hear it , smell it or feel it. ( my bottom will feel warm) In the beggining I was constipated, but I am OK now. (I got off the laxitives, lived a less stressful life and drank coffee in the morning and my movements normalised). Over the counter gas medication once helped a little, now I become bloated. I took peperment pills they didn't do much at first than later when I tried them I had a bad reaction. Do intestines develop allergies like that? GI specialist say I am strong and healthy and live with it. He will not give me any Antibiotics he says they are dangerous. I fasted on the last day of the Islamic holly month of ramadon, For 24 hours. On that night's dinner I offended my whole family. (family gatherings are espesially stresfull for me) I wonder is that enough to know that my problem is from the atmosphere or I must do the 48 hour fast to know for sure? MY diet is terrible. (beer is my antidepressant medication). When my ibs began I was Alcohol free. I have a sweet tooth that is out of control (ever since dating became out of the question) Only after a heavy night of drinking can I be sure of major problems, there seems to be no consistency with what food is going to trigger my symptoms. Although I learned long ago to mot eat a combination of foods and am in a relaxed state during digestion. Small amounts is the way I must go or leaky bottom can turn to explosive one. Again stimulation, pressure, stress is what is the greatest threat. This comming saturday I plan to begin a plan that I formulate right here, with help from any generous person out there. I have become familiar with flux and bonnie ( by reading 6 packed pages of wonderfull knowledge) Any additional help to kick start me would be great

I'm actually a bit confused. Why is the gas a problem, then?

I wonder how my topic ended up here? I almost could not find it. MY gas is a problem because every room i enter I crash the party. humiliation is the problem. Also perhaps i have exaggerated "can't feel it". This is gross but I feel itching were the gas comes out and like I said it get's warm. I posted a couple questions in my letter above (the conversation in the thread became a little complicated for a novice such as my self.) This must seem to you the same sad story but I have a gift with working with inner city teens, if I am able to recover, with the assistance of either one of you, rest assure that many youth will benifit from it. I guess what I am asking for is to have my above statement attacked and ripped apart in order to find what the next best thing is. What was the first impresion you had with the cause of my problem, and what do you expect the result of my fast will be? Should I simply start a diet or insist on antiobiotics or what. Again I now know that many others have it worse than me, but for a social bug to be confined like a hermit is pain that is immeasurable.

hi bonnie I do not think i am lactose intolerant, Only food i can say that will cause immediate problems is cabbage, or other green leafy stuff. In fact I discovered this years ago so I am not sure if that even applies anymore.

LOL. You asked for it you will get it

I assume you mean the odor of gas?
quote:mentally abusive tyrant for a father (is this what is meant by brain gut connection)
Stress could affect the brain gut connection and serotonin regulation

I believe when i was undergoing some extreme emotions sort of, I think, like the ones you mention my gas took a turn for the worse

You say you are not lactose intolerant? How do you know that? You would need to have atleast two glasses of milk to produce symptoms. Have you done that?

It is possible the wrong carbohydrate(lactose) fed the wrong bacteria(gas producing lactose loving bacteria) as well as emotional stress- both played a part and conditioned your body to react to small amounts of gas in anticipation of greater amount of gas. This is just a theory of mine.

Long term they could be.I can't guess if the gas is from the atmosphere or the bacteria and food.Your best bet is to try the 48 hr fast and if the gas is not substantially reduced , you will know you don't have to worry about eliminating other sources. The downside is you won't be able to do anything for it and you will unfortunately just have to learn to live with it. If the gas is reduced then you will have to do it according to what flux outlined in the hopeless thread.By the way - a very imp question- do you have excessive gas- you will have to count and if you pass it more than 50 times a day you know you have excessive. Then you will have to resort to the extreme solutions in the hopeless thread. Otherwise diet modification, maybe probiotics, is the way to go.

If your problem is odor, this may help:There is a product made that can be purchased at www.flatulence-filter.com. They make two products. The most useful one to me is a small pad that can be placed down ones underwear whitch reduces the smell from gas. I have found the pads effective, although I have read a post from someone who didnt find them effective, so your results may varyKey points Use at least two pads for maximum effectiveness. They claim that its 90% effective at reducing odor. I find it works very well in almost all but the most extreme cases. For my very worst smelling gas, the two pad solution isnt 100% effective, but still SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the smell. Releasing small amounts of gas at a time is also obviously helpfulThe pads work much better when sitting down. In social situations, I will only release gas when seated, quietly of course. There is a problem with just putting the pad down your pants, as it doesnt stay in place. It also means you would need to wash the pad cover daily. My solution for this is to wear two pairs of underware, with the pad covers sewed into the outer pair. This keeps the pads where they need to be, and has the added benefit of not having to wash the pad covers daily.I dont know the best placement for the pads, but here is how I use them. Its hard for me to explain it, so I will do my best. The pads are pear shaped. I dont completely overlap them. One of them is 180 degrees different than the other one (upside down) . The circular big part of the pads overlap, and this part should be placed as close to the rectum as possible. They are cheap. About 12 bucks per pad, and they say they last 3-6 months. I find that that the 2 pads last only two months. After about a month, I find they dont work as well, so I switch the pads so that the one that was on the top is now on the bottom. This gives me about another month, for a two month total. I take them off when I get home and on the weekends to extend the life of the pad. So it seems they really dont last very long, but they are cheap and well worth it.
