Hi! A Gastro is a Dr. that specializes in the digestive system. In this country they are the ones that usually perform any scopes or procedures and can help because they USUALLY(but not always) know more about IBS and other Gastro conditions than our regular physicians. If you can't afford one easily ask your Dr. to perform as many tests as he can before sending you off to the specialist. Like for example I know most of them can take care stool specimens&cultures, blood work etc. This way maybe you will only have to see the specialist for a short time. I wish you good luck and urge you to make sure your Dr's. rule out any of the other illnesses(Chrohns Disease,Colitis etc.).I know it is a drag but it is, unfortunately, expensive AND necessary. Take care of yourself. BQ BTW WELCOME!!!!

I have had tests done by my normal Doctor as in stool tests, bloods, barium etc and they have ruled everything else out except for IBS.I spoke to a friend yesterday and she thinks that if I am referred to the Gastro Dr through our hospital then I may be able to get an appointment for free!!!!I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks!
