I have been wanting to talk to someone about this problem for years now and have finally decided that a forum such as this is the best approach for now...here goes..Having had IBS for nearly 20 years on and off, I have obviously spent a great deal of time on the toilet straining, sometimes I even stick my fingers up my bottom to ease the stool out when I am badly constipated (gross I know). Anyway my question is this: when I strain (push really hard) I can feel and see a huge pink muscle/fleshy thing come out of my anus hole. I don't think it is a pile as it is not painful and is has a hole in the middle where the stool comes out. It is really gross though and often covered in mucas.Does anyone know what this might be? Have I injured myself? I have noticed this from being about 14yrs old (am 30yrs now).I am desperately wanting to have a baby but am petrified of the birth and the nurses (and even worse my husband) seeing this gross thing when I push the baby out. Can anyone give me some reasurrance or ideas?Thanksp.s i know i should ask my doctor but am way way too embarassed.

It could be just your rectal tissues but I dunno. If you want to be able to give birth, I hate to tell ya, but you will have to, at some point, see a Doctor. Trust me, Doc's and nurses see butts all day long and probably won't think yours is all that special. Sorry, no offense meant.
But truth be told I bet they have seen everything and nothing shocks them anymore. LOL Now I know you think alot of your bum, and I bet it is a fine one too, but trust me, they won't be commenting on it. It is best to get to the Doc and have any fears you have put to rest so you can start your family.
Another thing, most husbands don't want much to do with the business end of having a baby. Tell him to be up at the other end holding your hand or something.
Feel better.

claroj,When I first starting getting attacks from IBS I felt the "gushy" thing too....it is rectal tissue trying to elongate itself to push the matter through. I asked once
And about the childbirth, dont even worry about that!!!! As "BQ" said they do see butts all day long! My sister had my nephew May 29th..when she started labor she wanted my mom and I up by her head "No looking at my stuff" she would say. My mom and I had to laugh because we knew once she hit full labor she would care if "her stuff" was televised on national TV! After she hit full labor I asked if I could see Blake's head, he was crowning. She, of course, said "Oh God I dont care!!" I looked as she was pushing and saw 3 walnut sized things hanging underneath his head! I was scared to death! I pulled my mom (who is an RN) down to see and ask her what they were...they were hemoroids!! How this girl could WALK I have no idea! That is why she didn't want us "in her stuff" cuz she was embarassed about them!Moral of this story....you wouldn't believe what dr.'s see on a average day....a little rectal tissue is NOTHIN'

It sounds like your pushing your colon out. Did you say there is a hole the end of it where the stool exits your body?? I would definately have that checked out.I too have problems with not being able to go even if its right there ready to come out - not sure what causes this but it always happens when I have an "attack" -I think the muscles contract and just don't let go -- Perhaps the bodies way of dealing with the attack -- I believe my problem lies in the consumption of fat --- All week my stools were like paste, stuck to my insides)Sorry I know that was gross) This am was actually kinda normal - I tried to eat all this fat to complete a test for my doctor and couldn 't even consume 50 grams of fat - let alone 100 grams!!! Now I'll be ill till tomorrow am or worse the next am ---- whenever my body decides to release the offensive culprit I ate... what a bummer BMS is - I am a 35 yo woman and mom of 2 children - ages 1 and 3

I think you are straining too hard and that pink thing you see is the end of your anus getting turned inside out. I remember that happening to me a few times when I was a kid and strained too much. I think mom actually asked the dr about it.While I don't think that pink lining showing is a super serious thing in itself (and that is a totally non-medical opinion so I could be wrong!), the fact that you are straining so much that it is coming out is something you should probably address. You've got enough symptoms, you really should see a dr, preferably a specialist, to evaluate you.
