I attended a dinner party on Saturday night and had already been C for 4 days which is a rarity for me and about two hours before the meal the gas that had been built up in me moved into my chest. It got so painful that I couldn't catch my breath and I could feel it moving around. I actually had to sit down I got weak from it. After an hour of suffering like this my foster mom brought me a glass of wine. I don't normally have anything to drink unless I plan to a few days in advance because of my meds. But at that point I didn't care. It settled down about 15 mintues before the meal and started its way back down into my system. I said to my mom seat me closest to the door because I knew that I was going to have to run at least once during the meal and didn't want to jump over guests. Well if I thought the pain was bad I think the embaressment was worse. The gas started to moved and you would hear these loud rumbles and out it came even squessing my butt didn't help. I would go to the bathroom and sit to see if that would relieve and nothing would come out. The monemt I would sit back at the table bang it would start again. Thank god the talk was loud my Mom said she couldn't hear me and she was next to me but knew that something was wrong because I was squirming and my hubby was watching my face and knew the embaressed look. My mom gave me another glass of wine to help me threw the dinner. What do you guys do in situations like this.

Hi, I to at times will have gas problems that go up into my chest area. I do find that when I am C for a day or so I will use Haley's Mo to keep everything moving. If I do not the gas problem will occur. My gastro Dr also told me to use Citrucel every day to keep things moving as well. I also find walking on a treadmill is helpful as well.I think if you are C keeping track of it is very important. Eating a lot of fiber, exercise, drinking water should help. Thanks Kathy

I'll get those every now and then but the past week has been really bad for some reason. I'll get those pains in my chest - and their like a shooting pain to me. It literally doubles me over. The best thing I do is walk - or move. I think when I move around, it gets the gas moving and out of my chest. I also try and drink some carbonated beverage. I figure if the gas is that close to my chest, a big burp might help it. It is a scary feeling though. If we have a heart attack - are we going to run to the bathroom thinking its IBS? I really wonder about that. ------------------Rebecca"Knowledge is Power"

This is interesting. I have been IBS-C for a few years now. However recently I have been experiencing episodes of bloating and increased feeling of gas mainly on my left side. I also get a feeling of what I guess could be best described as butterfiles, where I actually feel somewhat woozy. The closest thing that comes to mind is the feeling I had just before I made my first (and last, I might add) parachute jump years ago. I actually thought I was going to pass out before I jumped out.
I know there is no real cure for the IBS, but has anyone found anything that helps calm down these gas and bloating episodes.TIA,-Murph

Hi,I too also have experienced sharp gas pains in my chest in which it was very difficult to catch my breath. Sometimes its settles into my shoulder. Right now I'm getting them at night across my upper back. Funny, I have also found that a good shot of vodka could sometimes help the gas. Maybe it atributed to nerves.
