Saw a GI doc for the first time yesterday. He was really wonderful and concurred that since my D is worse from g/b removal that I should try Questran. I was given the kind that tastes just fine (texture not too great though). Took one dose before dinner. Was nauseated in the evening and had cramps like I needed to have a BM. Woke up in the middle of the night with tremendous gas and cramps. Finally passed what seemed like a very nice bowel movement (been a while!) and felt much better and went back to sleep.I am scared to take the Questran again tho. Those cramps were pretty nasty. Anybody else? Maybe I should try 1/2 the amount.
Hi Joanie:I haven't taken it, but I know a few people here do. Brandi is one of them. So hopefully by the end of the day someone will get back to you.If no one else has the same reaction, I'd say try it one more time. If it does the same thing stop taking it and call your doc. JeanG
Hi Joanie, I just started Questran on monday, and I haven't had any stomach pain so far, but have been really gassy, which my doctor told me might happen. Is it a possibility that the cramping may be trapped gas? Sorry I can't help much.
Joanie,I have been on Questran since April. The first few weeks I had some weird affects.Mostly gas and some nausea and mostly heartburn. Later on I would have some abdominal pains and it would turn out to be gas. Stick with this for a while till your body gets used to it. Try it for at least a month.I have gotten my life back since this stuff and I won't give it up!I am on the pill form now. Much easier to take for me!And to have normal stools all the time is great!I also got constipated alot at first too. Adding fiber helped! And lots of water!Good luck!Batty
Hi Joanie..I asked my GI to put me on Questran. Of course I was hoping for yet another "miracle cure". Instead I got a lot of heartburn and increased D. My body just flat out rejected the Questran. I was taking the powder form and felt horrible after taking it each time (nauseated, burning sensation in the entire GI tract). At my doctors urging, I stayed on for almost 2 weeks. I was miserable. Maybe the pill form would be a better alternative. For now I'm sticking to Limotil & a small dose of Citrucel. I hope Questran works for you!
citygirl, I am sorry it didn't work for you. I had a bad reaction the first time to Questran but have been doing fine on it ever since. When I posted this I was afraid to try it again but I finally decided to, and I am glad I did. It has given me solid bowel movements for the first time in so many years that I can't remember! It still mildly nauseates me when I take it, but the results make it worth it. I asked my doctor for the pill form and he said he prefers the powder because it works better. I may ask him again because pills are so much more convenient.
