HI,I am new to the forum, and would like it if somoene could offer me some advice please.I am 30 years old, always had a windy, bloated tummy. Had bloods done etc... and my GP last year told me I have IBS. My main symptoms are that I get bloated, need to have a wee more often, get a spasm type pain up my bottom it is very wierd, it almost feels like a huge ball of wind is sitting low down in my bottom and I need to blow it out, but I can't
Sorry
I get heartburn in my chest and back sometimes too, mys tomach always sounds gassy when it flares up.I had a bad time with it the week of christmas, but by Boxing Day it had gone and I felt fine again, but now it is back, it started late last night. Id had chilli pasta and cheese for lunch, it is abit spicy but I do love my spicy food, it was about 6 hours later though that the IBS type pains and gassy tummy hit, could that be the cause though? I had been feeling fine again until last night.I have been to the loo twice today, once it was quite hard to remove (but formed, tmi) and then just now when it was abit looser but not diorheoa. Not like me to go twice in a day!I have seen my GP and she gave me buscopan and paracetamol for the pains and spasms. It seems to get worse during my period or ovulation too.Does the needing to wee more often and the spasm/ball of wind up the bum thing sound like IBS? My GP says they are IBS symptoms but I don't know anyone else who gets them. Can anyone help reassure me, I am abit anxious about it all

There is a connection between the brain and distal (left) colon in IBS. When the colon is blown out and sensitized, the pain get transmitted to the ACC (anterior cingulate cortex), via the PGI (paragigantocellular area) which projects to the Barrington's nucleus that causes distal colon contractions. Activation of the ACC causes more sensitivity of the distal colon and rectum.

Welcome :(Well nothing to be anxious about... sure, those symptoms could be quite common in IBS. So try to relax... as that might even help itself! Also it is super sommon to have an increase in symptoms with hormonal fluxuations. See the "Hormones & IBS" article thumbtacked to the top of the "Women's Health Forum". (Use the site navigator at the bottom right of every page.)All the best

Thank you both.So when you are saying there is a connection with the brain, you think it could be related to say anxiety or stress? I have been under so much stress in recent weeks (my marriage broke down).I saw the GP tonight and he said it was IBS and a gastric thing, said it was excessive acid

I had IBS since 1983, and went through a litany of treatments, medications and physicians. Starting with Herb Benson, specialist in the Boston's Deaconess pain clinic, and later famous for the "Relaxation Response," try a variety of meds, none of which helped. I went on to some well recommended Internal Medicine doctors, who with medicine and adding grains (much like sandy cattle feed), again posted no real improvement. All tried their best, but found no real relief for me. My first success was with acupuncture, which would last for about 4-6 weeks, but required constant management. SUCCESS AT LAST: After one of my wife's colleagues gave her a food that remedied her needing to get monthly cortisone shots in her spine for arthritis, from a grain derived from a seed which contains the highest and safest source of Omega 3s (anti-inflammatory) of any other source in the world. She advised I try it for my IBS. This food I speak of has normalized my bowel function and eliminated pain and irregularity. It has been since March (09'). I would be happy to talk with you about my experiences, if you wish to contact me at [email protected] . Best Regards, Bob

He gave me buscopan for the IBS and an antacid for the acid in my stomach. Can IBS cause the acid in the stomach aswell?HE thinks I am not emptying my bowels properly when I go to the toilet, would this flare up my IBS?

We all have acid in our stomachs. If you have an excess than that could give you heartburn or GERD. Some folks have IBS and GERD. Some folks have just GERD. Some folks have just IBS.Here is a link to our Symptoms Page which compares IBS with other GI disorders so that will tell you what symptoms are typical for IBS and what symptoms are common for other GI disorders or which can happen in both IBS and other diseases. Reading this chart should clear up some of your questions.Just click here to see it: http://www.ibsgroup.org/symptoms

We appreciate your story but why all the secrecy over this 'magic potion'. It sounds like you are trying to sell something which is not really allowed on a forum such as this, because if we find something that helps we share it freely with everyone else, so can you tell us please?

Stress creates adrenaline which can have effects on both your digestion and your bowels. (There was a discussion some time ago which indicated a link between stress/adrenaline and inflammation, another source of digestive and bowel problems.) So yes, what you are undergoing may well be a contributing factor to the IBS and GERD.Mark

It is perfectly OK to mention the exact product name you are using. Some boards do not allow product names but we do, and a link to the main product website is OK as well as long as it isn't your personal sales site. Please do not do the email me for the name thing because that is exactly what a lot of sales people do. So it immediately makes people suspicious you sell it and may not even have whatever disease you say it is good for. Especially sounds like a sales ad when you have some version of a friend introduced us to this product story in the post. I swear all the network marketing sales training tell people to do that because it sounds folksy, but it just makes people certain you sell the stuff and that is the only reason you want to post about it.Additionally posting your email address in the public areas of a message board is a good way to deliver it directly to spammers and it is very hard to get off those lists once they have your email address. If you name the product then people can find their own distributor on the web if they want to purchase it. We do not allow marketers to direct people to their own sales site.
