Hello,I am 24 years old, I am starting to get really freaked out, I have had IBS-d for about 4-5 years. This past week every time I go to the bathroom my stools are long and thin. I am starting to think that something else is wrong with me like cancer (I know probably a little extreme I am just scared) and this has happened every time I have a bowel movement for a week. Should I be concerned? Sorry to post this I'm sure it's a little more information than you needed to know I am just scared. Any help is greatly appreciated!!Kris

I can understand your concern. Have you visited a gastroenterologist lately? Cancer is often, but not always, indicated by black, tarry stools not usually long thin ones. I also am from Michigan and can recommend a gastroenterologist in Brighton that is a specialist in IBS. I know that is quite a distance for you, but it's not as if you have to have an appointment every week. If you are interested, e mail me and I will give you his name and phone number. It takes a long time to get an appointment. You may not be able to get in for 2-4 months.

kris, i wouldnt worry about cancer....long thin stools just might be from the amount of water in them.i get them to,like the consistency of soft ice cream.i to worry alot and i know the mind and gut have a connection so keep that in mind. do you take a fiber suplement ? like metimucil ? that keeps me pretty regular except for the really bad attacks.good luck.
