I am a 16 year old female, recently diagnosed with IBS and I am in search of help. I have bowl spasms on a frequent basis leaving me in extream pain. My doctor has placed me on the medication Levisin, 0.125mg. Sometimes these spasms last up to 7 hours very unbearable. The spasms seem to be worst at the starting of my period. What else can I do to ease or cure the pain of these spasms as they occur? Someone suggested a heating pad? What else can I do?

Bluesclues, sorry to hear you have IBS. The first thing to do is education on IBS so you can figure out ways to treat it and why.I highly recommend this book for you to start from one of our bb members. You can read some of it online. http://www.firstyearibs.com/ I also suggest you read this website thouroughly as it is considered the top IBS research center in the US. http://www.med.unc.edu/medicine/fgidc/ There are a lot of things you can do to ease the spasms and people here have a lot of things youu can try, so read on.IBS so you know is a very complicated condition, wwhich they have not completely figured out yet, but they are working on it and they have learned a real lot in the last few years.I would also read this as its very important. http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/biology/b103/...2/partner2.html Hope that helps and I hope you feel better.

I have very bad bowel spasms too, and they hurt like yours do! Last episode, kept me and my husband up most of the night. I also noticed it is worse when I do not go #2 well, or when I get gas, and then feel releif when I pass the gas. Also peppermint teas help, or cammomile teas, or strong mints like altoids. Right now I am on Donnatal, and also have Bentyl, helps releive spasms. I hope we do not have this problem with spasms all the time, I would love to be off of meds. Don't want to be on them for the rest of my life. I hope that you do start to feel releif too. Take care. Tami
