Tricyclic antidepressants should be taken only at bedtime so you sleep when the worst of the sleepy-side effect is going on (actually they are generally fairly good for pain for a lot of people). If you still fall asleep during the day you may have to cut back on the dose (temporarily or permanently, I do OK with 25 mgs or so but 50 tends to leave me still a bit groggy in the am).K.

Sorry to hear you are in such pain!!I felt cheated by the doctors constantly like they didnt want to help me at all, what you should do is demand a referal to a gastroentrologist, that doc will give u a proper medical opinion and put u through tests that will find the problem.I find that with the gp's they want to give u the quick fix to get you out of there, but u need to see a specialist who will give you the medical attention you deserve!!Good luck!

If this is sharp pains, it is most likely gas blocked by the food you consumed earlier. Avoid milk it is mucus forming and makes your insides sticky and the gas can't get past this obstruction (undigested food), causing sharp pains! If the pain is a burning sensation, you probably drank or ate something acidic. Like tea, on an empty stomach, it causes an overall dull burning sensation, atleast this is what I have found to be my case. For me cheese does not produce this mucus and may actually help coat your bowels with friendly bacteria. I read somewhere the natural bowel flora (good guys) die off after a few days if you don't eat some dairy. Goat's milk yougurt doesn't form mucus either, but it tastes terrible, why , not sweet, low on sugar, add shredded coconut to it(yeast doesn't like that). Sugar must feed these bad guys, starve them and feel better. If you must have sugar drink regular pepsi cola(not diet) and I've notice symptoms aren't as bad. Pepsi is very abrasive and will hopefully clean out the bad guys, then try the yogurt or cheese, to reestablish the good guys. The bad guys like an acid environment, eat more alkaline foods. Hope this helps,Good Luck!

Hi, KidInPain -- REAL sorry you're still in this much pain! I can totally relate 'cause i just had the worst the past weekend. and I think what Johnny said is great and worth a try!Johnny -- i have a question about coke, though. my dentist told me a couple years ago that any coke just has so much acid that one shouldn't drink it (and it's true, 'cause once a friend's car got rusted and the repairman just poured some coke on the rust and oh man that reaction on the rust was violent) -- i'm just wondering whether drinking coke will put more acid in the stomach/bowel? Thanks!

Hi Cheri. I mentioned Pepsi for two reasons, my brothers girlfriend drank it and consumed Goat yogurt with garlic slices and also ate cocnut in an attempt to get rid of her ibs and for the most part it worked. She had had ibs for 6 months and after the above treatment, she was ok.....for a few years, then she elected to have antibiotics for something personal and got ibs again. It's not going away so easy this time and I don't think she's drinking pepsi because of her weight. Yes it's corrosive. I tried it myself and I felt better, but if I take it later in the day I have trouble getting to sleep. Also I have a cavity and I'm trying to find a good dentist. I questioned her alot about what she had taken the first time to recover, and I had tried all of it as well, except Goat yogurt and the pepsi. And as far as the garlic is concerned, eaten daily also put my symptoms in remission, but who wants to eat garlic everyday? Not me. Anyway I think it's a case of burning away the bad guys and replenishing with the good guys, before new bad guys move in. And they move in real quick with every bite of food you consume. Good luck to everone.

Kidinpain, Oh, do I feel for you. I've been there. All I can tell you is what worked for me what didn't. Anti-spasmatics didn't. Maybe because I only took them during an attack and not as a precaution. Peppermint tea and peppermint altoids did help me. I have noticed since I've been taking immodium on a regular basis that I haven't had a really bad case of spasms. Maybe because it paralyzes the bowels. I don't know, but it does seem to help me.

Johnny -- Thanks for the tip! Sounds like a great idea!KidInPain -- I'm really sorry it acted up like that again. It is really frustrating, isn't it -- like, mine seems to love to come on weekends, how "nice!" But pepperment tea is definitly a good idea, worth a try!

Hello Kid -I don't know where you are located in the world. Here in the USA you can get Immodium in stores with no prescription. Ask your doctor where you can get it in your area. Also, I would like to respond to the suggestion that we should take Metamucil. Metamucil contains both soluble and insoluble fiber, and I find that when I take it, I am an adult in pain! It causes cramps so bad I would rather starve to death than ever eat anything again! When I stick with soluble fiber supplements I don't get that horrible pain. I hope you feel better very soon, KidInPain.

Just so you know Kid.. Imodium is a brand name.. the actual medication is Loperamide. Here is some info on it:http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginf...er/a682280.htmlLike Empress mentioned.. Loperamide is available here without a Doctor order and is purchased at many druggist/pharmacy shops.Hope you feel better.BQ
