I have had the worst week!! Have been really busy with it being Easter and had really bad diarrhea every day. I had to take imodiums every day (but I still managed to go to the loo in the morning so not getting blocked up) I just wondered whether anyone else has to take them every day and is this ok to do? I have tried the calcium and that made things worse. My doctor dosen't really care and I don't know what to do anymore.

Hi Claire,I've taken Immodium every day for 10 days when I went on my honeymoon. Kept me more or less anxiety-free, and didn't cause any noticeable damage. I think I recall it being written somewhere by some important doctor or professor that immodium is not addictive.Ge.

They have done clinical studies in IBSers taking Imodium every day for several months at a time.As long as you know you have IBS and you take just enough that you still have a BM regularly you should be OK.Typically in the studies what they find works best is a dose that you take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at dinner. Rather than taking that same number of pills all in the morning.Typically it is not addictive in the average user. There is a report of some opiate addict that could use Imodium to get high but he was taking like 160 pills at a time and was already addicted to opiates when he started doing Imodium.K.

Thanks for ur advice. I have been taking 2 tablets first thing in the morning and that has been enough to keep me blocked all day until the following morning. I also did manage to have several bowel movements in the morning ( just not as many as when I don't take them).I am really beginning to find it a struggle with my job. I am always late and always so worried during the day. I cant eat anything and feel so tired all the time. I do feel a slight relief that I am blocked when I have taken them and this stops me stressing out so much. I have said that I think I could do with some medication to stop me worrying so much but my doctor doesn't want to give me anything as she says that they are all addictive. I don't honestly care if they are. I know that when I start to worry I make things 100 times worse. I am dreading the Summer as I have to work really long hours. I am having to get out of bed at 6oclock in the morning now to get to work at 9oclock. I don't know what I am going to do if this gets worse.
