I don't know if I can take it anymore. I wake up every morning without a stomach ache, have a morning bowel movement, and then the stomach ache arrives. And then I spend the whole day with a stomach ache, and going back and forth to the toilet for more bowel movements that produce long, stingy stools. Every day. Not just once in a while. It's every day. Doctors tell me it's IBS, but can it be this severe for over two years? I had all the tests (negative), but we really need to find something. I eat very well. Anyone help me? I'm dying here...

Nice name by the way - welcome to this site. If you are having these long, stringy stools, sounds like the poor owld colon's really going into overdrive. My colon's in bad shape at the moment, so, for me, back to the bland, bland diet, no wheat, no dairy, probiotics, plenty of plain water - try and keep a food diary - there must be summat that's setting this all off.Its hideous I know - but you are not alone.Get well soonSue

LabradorHi - Unfortunately most of us on these boards have similar stories to tell regarding our symptoms and pain of ibs whether it is d. or c.I have been living with this for over 30 years but during the past year I have managed to get some control and stability after finding this site and ... Please look at this site. I decided to stick to her diet as much as I could, and I added a soluble fiber supplement daily and in the past six months have also taken Acidopholus tablets - these have helped too. (my symptoms are diarrhea, urgency, pain) The soluble fiber has definitely removed a lot of my pain.Unfortunately, what works for one of us does not work for another but I would warn you that you do need to give supplements/change in diet etc. time to work. This time last year I was so absolutely desperate that is how I found these sites and I began to make changes to my diet regime and very gradually began to improve. I had become somewhat of a recluse. Many people on these boards take Calcium Carbonate to help with diarrhea (if that is one of your symptoms)....com has pages and pages of valuable information, it does take a while to read through it all but it is worth it. All the best.

Hi Labrador: JudithB is right: This is a lifelong problem, and it does take time to figure it out. If you do something (change diet, take supplements, etc.) give it a few weeks before deciding it doesn't work. If it makes things worse in the mean time, stop and try something else. If it's the same or better, give it time. It took me 2 years to figure this out.

My god Robert - these looks really interesting - I'm gonna promise myself a good half an hour to goz at this this evening when the posse have gone to bed - but so far, couldn't agree more. Why am I such a worrier - and yes, yes, yes stress x1000 my symptoms. We had a glorious week away in Nortumberland (NE England) in May, doggie walks on the beach, chilling in crozzly old pubs and spending some real "family time" (cringeable word but valid none the less) and not a symptom in sight!!So, thanks, I'll get reading and report back.Sue, Manchester
