Hi,My name is Renee and I'm new to this board. I was hoping someone might be able to help me out. My doctor recently "diagnosed" me with IBS because he was unable to fine anything else wrong. I'm having a hard time believing it's IBS because I don't have a lot of the same symptoms you all suffer from. I don't suffer from diarhhea or constipation. My main symptoms are gas, abdominal pain, and some bloating. Has anyone else been diagnosed with IBS that has similar symptoms without the diarhhea and constipation. Thanks,Renee

Here is the dealIf they don't find anything in the tests you have SOME sort of functional disorder. Some doctors lump ALL functional bowel problems (and even all functional GI problems) under the IBS label even though the researchers studying these things tends to separate things out.You do not have to have full blown diarrhea or constipation. If there is ANY alteration in stool consistancy or frequency that is associated with the pain that is enough for it to be called IBS.If every single stool is always the same consistancy and frequency as befor you may not have IBS, but at this time it doesn't make much difference if we call what you have Chronic Functional Abdominal Pain or Functional Bloating or whatever rubric fits you better as the treatments tend to be based on eliminating a symptom and the symptom doesn't care which name it is a part of

IBS Trendy new name? I'm 34 and they called it IBS when I was 19 (counts back the years) Ok..that's like 25 years. So they have used the term for at minimum 25 years and its "Trendy" good god I hope we are not wearing the same things I was back then. Besides Colitis is "Immflamation of the Colon". I took medical terminology and that's the meaning. IBS is totally different. I would have just told him. It means if he's not careful you'll #### on him. lolHumrum
