I got so excited that there is a site that has other people with IBS that I forgot to ask the question I need to know. I had a bad attack today and now I am afraid to eat anything. I have only had crackers. Any suggestion as to what I can eat.

Well there is really no way to tell you what NOT to eat. Remember all the things you had to eat before you had the attack. If you consistantly have problems with that food, avoid it. And then there are the obvious foods. My doctor told me to try and stay away from anything fried, spicy or greasy. Another thing you might try is to regualte your eating habits. I find that if i eat spratically during the day..i have problems. Try to eat your meals the same time everyday, and dont eat late at night. What triggers IBS is unfortunately unknown. We have to know our bodies because every case is different. I i eat Burger King 10 minutes later im in the bathroom and i stay there for the rest of the night...you might not be the same way. Whats that saying "One mans meat is another mans poison?" Well its true. Try and keep a record of what you eat and when you have attacks, in a month look back at it and see if there are any foods that consistantly gave you problems.Well i hope i was a little helpful! Feel better soon
Virginia~PS: I used to starve myself all the time and believe me,it doesnt help at all. You may not have an attack but you hurting yourself horribly, try and eat something or you'll make yourself sicker..

Start out by adding diff. foods little by little and see how you react. Start off with rice (my safe food), then add baked chicken breast (minimal seasonings) and then some cooked veggies. It's not easy to do but maybe you'll find a few foods that you are fine with and then try to build meals around those. Be careful with spicy food, dairy and red meat. You can't be very healthy on crackers alone so please try to add some other things to your diet - the blander the better. Well I hope to see you around and good luck. Please keep us up to date on how it goes.

That last sounds just like my diet. All I eat is chicken, potatoes, beans...plain, plain bland boring foods but if I don't there's trouble. Anytime Itry to add any new foods I have anotehr D attack. No pizza, no fast foods, no dairy, read all labels..it's the pitts but anything is better than diarrhea all the time. A food diary...write down EVERYTHING you eat every day. check for trigger foods. Take your meds...and you still may have days when it happens no matter how careful you've been...the pitts

You can go on Boost or Ensure for awhile just to get some nutrition while you are eating your rice lol! Just kidding I actually love rice and it is a safe food. The Boost or Ensure is good to help your system calm down so you can eat again.
