Fiber, yogurt, no dairy, no artificial sweeteners, no coffee, no caffeine... the list goes on and on. I keep hearing soluble fiber helps. What can I eat that has a lot of soluble fiber? Maybe my problem before was that I was eating a lot of insoluble fiber? I was eating whole grain breads, bran, fruits and vegetables, etc. I think my IBS is very stress related though, because my symptoms were under control until school started this year...

Hi,Im currently trying a diet whereby soluble fibre suuch as white bread, pasta and soft fruits (i.e. those without the peel/skin) or cooked vegetables are the main component of any meal and snack. I am reading a book called 'Eating for IBS' by Heather Von Vorous (who has had IBS herself) and she talks a lot about the use of soluble fibre which relaxes your GI tract rather than irritates it which is what insoluble fibre does when it is eaten on its own or on an empty stomach. I am also cutting out spicy food, gassy food, alcohol, caffeine, high calore food and dairy and all this seems to be helpful. As for stress I no how u feel as I have anxiety alongside the IBS...I use Diazepam prescribed the doctor and am currently having counselling sessions using CBT techniques as homework. Perhaps you could also try relaxation techniques such as deep breathing amd maybe hypnotherapy. Its just trial and error to see what works which is what I am currently doing at the moment.

by the foods you say your eating it sounds like your problem can be fixed by eating better. the average store bought whole grain breads and fruit and such are terrible for a damaged stomach. here is my safe foods list and it has foods that help heal a damaged stomach.http://www.ibsgroup.org/forums/index.php?/topic/128769-feeling-alone/scroll down till you see my post at that link.also to awnser your question on fiber i try to eat as little fiber as possible it hurts my gut but if i was to eat fiber i would follow the advice at this link.http://probiotics.mercola.com/probiotics.html?aid=CD847also if you want to know how to eat grains properly then this link will explain.http://www.westonaprice.org/food-features/497-be-kind-to-your-grains-and-your-grains-will-be-kind-to-you.htmland well grains wont really heal a stomach near as good as meat but atleast when you eat grains properly they wont give anywhere near as much gas nor will they damage your stomach.
