I have been suffering all my life. I have pain on the upper right abdomen. I have uncntrollable gas with bad smell. It is very hard to socialise. I have been suffering for several years. I have burning sensatin in the right upper abdomen (stomach) and the back. I can not tolerate acidic drinks, beer, soda, and coffee as well as tea. I have been diagonized with doudnal ulcer and treated with antibiotics and Tagamet and Sostrill. That helped me a lot and this was about 8 years ago in Europe. I did repeated endoscopy tests to check the healing of the ulcer which the doctor proved but he also told me that I had a nervous (inflamed stomach wall around the doudnum area). But to these days the gas intensity has not decreased eventhough the indigestion problem has completely disappeared. I do not have any constipation or diarrhea. At times when I have anxiety and feel stressed to meet deadlines at work or when I argue with my boss it happens I get intense gas followed by mild diarrhea. It is also my observation that when I put on weight the symptoms of too much gas and pain temporarily go away or decreases but not completely becauses it intesifies again in the event of the build up of anxiety or stress especially when my stomach is empty and when I get angry at something. When I visited a new doctor (here in the USA last year, January 2000) she told me that this is IBS. It was strange for me to hear that at the begining. But I doubt it. All the medicine she gave me did not help. It is only when I have a good rest the pain and gas tend to decrease/subside. My stool also looks to me acidic in nature that can give me discomfort to go to the bathroom. Can you help me find out what it is?------------------Thanks,Johny.[This message has been edited by tageb (edited 07-19-2001).][This message has been edited by tageb (edited 07-19-2001).][This message has been edited by tageb (edited 07-19-2001).][This message has been edited by tageb (edited 07-19-2001).][This message has been edited by tageb (edited 07-19-2001).][This message has been edited by tageb (edited 07-19-2001).]

I had both also, but the ulcer was found by having an upper GI done, My doctor also did an endoscopy and found that I did have H-pylore bacteria which causes ulcers and will make you feel drained and nauseated. I feel like I had the ulcer first, which triggered the IBS due to stress at work. Treat the ulcer and hope it will make you feel better.

Thank you guys!I think I did not put the whole story. Any ways, I have edited it for the second time to give you a good picture of the disease. To answer Erics question, I did several times endoscopy. Initially the doctor found pylori bacteria that had prevented the healing of the ulcer for a long time. Other than that I did not do any other test. I did some barium test to check the intestine a year ago but was negative. The doctor thought it could be cancer. Later she told me to do a colonoscopy test but I did not go because I felt she did not understand my problem. Do you think colonoscopy will prove what this is ?
