I've been suffering for over a year (October 2022 is when it began) and the problem has been constant since then.

A few months ago I met someone on Tinder, and because I trusted her, I told her that I have this problem. I was initially only looking to have outdoor meets like hikes to save myself the embarrassment, but I noticed that the issue kind of went away as we chatted back and forth. Then I had the courage to bring up a meet, as I hadn't really smelled anything in a while. I was shocked but just rolled with it.

We ended up going on dates and had sex a lot. In the end it didn't work out due to compatibility issues, but I felt free. I was able to sit in my car with the windows up without smelling anything but the faint smell of motor oil residue on a rag somewhere in the car. I was able to go to the store and look at products on the shelf with a stranger next to me.

It ended up returning a few weeks after the last time we had sex, then got worse when I became really depressed (the compatibility issue was unexpected).

So this is giving me a few theories:
  • Stress is connected
  • My arousal for this person made my pelvic floor more relaxed
  • Sex helps (note: I have a penis)
