I have IBS-d and have noticed that whenever I eat food with nitrates such as hot dogs, bacon, balogna etc., I get constipated. Could nitrates in smaller quantities be used to control the condition? Also, Nitrates tend to constrict blood vessels so perhaps blood flow to the intestinal track is a factor in IBS......mabey this is why people say that their condition improves if they excercise regularly.
