hello everyone. I am having the antireflux surgery on the 10th.I've tried all the pills and stuff and finally after at least 10 years I will have relief. ALso yesterday I had a colonoscopy. After doing all the other wonderful, comfortable test we must endure, I thought I'd give this one a try. ha. First of all phospha soda is THE nastiest thing I've ever tasted. I was told I would be fully sedated for this and I was awake. I don't want to scare anyone but it did hurt when the passed the air into me. It felt just like my "normal" pains I get with this IBS. Afetr all was done, my gastro said she took two biopsies and said I had a spastic colon and to call in a week. Isn't a spastic colon the same as IBS? She prescribed something for the D but I am afraid of C as a result.Questran (sp) is the name. Any info? Thanks for following the whole post, it is kind of long!Heather

Heather, please describe your GERD to me. What does it feel like? Although it seems to be gone today, the past two days I've had a feeling like food is stuck in my throat. Even though it isn't. It's like the feeling you get when you're about to cry. That lump in your throat. I was thinking maybe I had a hiatus hernia. I should call the doctor I guess. And it seems like when I eat my throat gets all full of flem and my nose gets stuffed. My father complains of the same thing. Is this acid reflux? I'm new to this and trying to understand.

There are lots of symptoms of GERD. Your lump in your throat sounds like a motility problem.I have a hiatal hernia, reflux and motility problems. There are drugs such as Reglan that helps control these symptoms. (I have little personal experience with Reglan, I am allergic to it but it is not common), Do pills get stuck in your throat? Food? -Possibly you could have sore throat, it doesn't really sound like that but you never know. Please do contact your gastro doc as this could lead into more serious problem. I'm not trying to scare you but it is certainly better safe than sorry. Heartburn is common with the motility thing and you may not even realize what it is. My advice for you is to buy some Maalox or even better the liquid tagamet. It is the BEST! Pills and food do not get stuck. I have no trouble swallowing. A montth and a half ago I got what I think was probably food poisoning. After that for a little while when I ate, It felt like I was getting full rather quickly and I was belching and burping up a lot. It felt like the food I ate wasn't going anywhere and I was only relieving myself once a day, in the morning as opposed to the 3 to 4 times a day I usually do. Symptoms got better as I started exercising more and I lost 10 pounds in a month to help lower my high blood pressure. The past two days I've gotten that food being stuck feeling. I made a post similar to this earlier and a person with a hiatus hernia said the symptoms I was describing sounded familiar to hers. It's almost a feeling like when you're about to cry you get a lumpy throat feeling. I notice it more when my stomach is empty. When I eat it feels better. It's not as bad today as it was the past 2 days.

I know my hernia pain and I have never associated it with the lump in your throat feeling. Mine generally comes when I feel like I' going to throw up and it is like a dull knife trying to come out my chest through my esoph. I do get the lump when I have a throat infection. I had a tooth ache that spread to my throat and I definately had that pain. The best advoce you'll get id from your doctor wether it is a gastro or GP they should be able to point you in the right direction. If it is a HH sometimes surgery is required to fix the problem.
