Have been religiously adhering to IBS-Mike Mahoneys tapes and am just about to complete the course. Don't know whether it has helped-probably not but wonder if it is detrimental to always be checking this site. Am always thinking IBS-d and its problems. Do you think that always checking in on this forum makes things worse-deepening the groove in the record springs to mind. I know if feels good to know that I'm not alone but maybe I think about it too much. Before internet technology I wouldn't have been so in tune with things and maybe this makes me worse-um...not sure!

I understand your concern but i am thinking the opposite that checking this forum and seeing peoples different problems and different approaches to resolving them offers some promise for me to correct whatever it is thats going on with me.

I can tell you that being in here has helped me a lot. Most of all with my panick attacks...am feeling so much better than before. And then it has also helped me to improve my knowledge of IBS and find ways to make my life better. For example I was taking a BC pill that in my opinion caused all my problems and because I was in here and I read posts of other women who were affected by BC pills I decided to stop taking them and I am so much better since then.Wanting or not IBS is a condition that will most likely drive you paranoid and you will think of it all the time regardless of being on this website or not....

Hi Petra - Yes, being on the bulletin board and constantly reading about, typing, and thinking about IBS - whether your symptoms or another's, does interfere with the processes involved in using clinical hypnotherapy to address the brain-gut connection. The protocol used for the gut-specific processes in the IBS Audio Program is geared to taking you away from IBS thoughts and connections and breaking that automatic response. And for most folks, they no longer think about IBS because they are no longer having the symptoms - or at least they are thinking about it less, and do not have to have the support - But of course, support is good too! When reading about symptoms, this brings these thoughts to mind that add on to the thoughts you have during the course of your day - so on top of thinking about IBS while having IBS symptoms, you are adding to the thoughts. Now, please do not get me wrong - coming to this support group can be very helpful and therapeutic - after all, I have been here since 2000!
But I do know, from personal experience, as well as from those I speak with, that being away from the BBs and not reading and thinking about IBS if it isnt necessary, is helpful to your progress while doing the hypnotherapy process. For those of you who are reading this, and who have had their symptoms be reduced from reading suggestions, and from support, then that is great! Everyone is different and needs to find their own way. But for a great many folks who have successfully done the program, they no longer are members, because IBS is no longer a part of their life.Should you need further support, do feel free to call 877-898-2539 and they will be happy to address any concerns regarding the IBS Audio Program you may have. As a sufferer of IBS since 1983, I do know that this group has helped me through a lot of tough IBS times - and I learned of the hypnotherapy program here - and it was the best thing I did to treat my IBS - you can read my full journey in the link below if you wish. Since I was on the BB while doing the program, and having such a hard-wired condition, it took me 3 rounds of the program before I began to really see relief. I do always wonder if I weren't on the BB so much, if it would have taken less time - but I wanted to encourage others and be encouraged - but, the bottom line is that Mike says staying away from reading about IBS when not absolutely necessary is better to overall progress in terms of time and quality.Hope this helps - all the best to you all. Take care and I hope you feel better soon.

I found this board really helped me because up until I found it, I really thought I was totally alone dealing with diarrhea. I know that sound really silly but I really did and I was so embarassed about it all. It really helped me to become more open about the problem and to talk to doctors, boss, friends. My family although they have been wonderful never really got it. So I am one of those people that this board really helped me a lot. I am that type of personality where I think about things a lot anyway, so I don't think being on here made that worse. It was with me all day everyday, and it was impossible to think about anything else anyway. This board helped me to get a lot of things of my chest and I don't know how things would have been if I hadn't found the support from everyone on here. I guess it really depends on the person. For me at the moment things are much improved but I still come on here a few times a week because I want to try to help someone else going through the same thing. hopefully I may be able to help one person.

thanks for all your replies. Undoubtedly, I do get a lot of support from the board and check it at least everyday. I have tried all sorts of things that I would never have known about but I also recognise that you can get fixated about it and that can make it worse (at least in my head) which is the last thing I need.
