Hi Heather, I am a new member, wish I would of known of this site along time ago. I have had IBS throughout my childhood and adult years. I am 41 now, but I've never had IBS as bad as this year, just unreal! Doctors have told me continually to get fiber in my diet. But I didn't realize that milk and other dairy products could irritate IBS. It seems like all the foods I do like, I really can not have unless I want to deal with another IBS attack. Do you have other information about what foods to eat to control IBS, to keep it under control? The other thing that may be helpful for you to know is that I am also diabetic, and I am on alot of medications, like anti-depressants, and high-blood pressure medicine, will these also irritate IBS? Thank you! I have been reading some of the other things that people have posted. Every bit of it is so helpful!

Hi there - Anti depressants can have a huge effect (for better or for worse) on IBS so this is definitely something you want to ask your doc about asap. You may have to adjust the type of medication and/or dosage.Don't feel that you can't eat anything good without getting sick. That's honestly not the case. The most helpful foods to keep IBS under control are soluble fiber - there is detailed info about what that means here http://www.firstyearibs.com/day3learn.html Dairy is a trigger - avoid it completely. Also, how you eat can be as important as what you eat. Check here for ideas http://www.eatingforibs.com/strategy.htm For concerns about eating for IBS and diabetes, check the faq here http://www.eatingforibs.com/faq.htm#diabetes Best,Heather
