Hi!My member name is "Chatterbee" (after my cat :&gt
and I too have IBS.I'm 61, and have had it for years!Had my first colonoscopy about 4months ago (put it off, for obvious reasons), but did have a sigmoidoscopy over 10 years ago. Both times gastroenterologist diagnosed IBS (just short of diagnosing me with Chrons)I consider myself healthy (walk/jog/brewer's yeast/eat fairly healthy...fish, veggies, olive oil, vitamins), do drink wine nightly; do not smoke.I AM on antidepressant, but IBS was around before I ever started those. I can go for the longest time (yogurt, brewer's yeast seem to keep me fairly consistent), but never know when either diarrhea or constipation is going to hit. I can be at the store, or in the car, and WHAM...when I have to go, I HAVE TO GO!I do take fiornal/cod for condition called fibromuscular dysplasia of renal arteries (not fibromyalgia)...but, have taken them for so long, that I can only say, if anything, they slow the diarrhea down...Okay...I know I sound like a broken record to you (Thank God there are support Groups out there)...but, I have found A WONDER DRUG and want to know if anyone else has tried it.When I was a child, and would have a tummy ache (yes, signs of IBS where there even then) my mother would give me paragoric...Grew up and...just forgot about it.I'm on a lot of medications (high blood pressure secondary to fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD), and Drs won't allow me to take the "new drugs for IBS"So...my family Dr gave me RX for paragoric. I don't take it daily, as I'm close to rest room if needed, but if we go out, or on a trip, I just take a "swig" of it, and I swear to God...there is NO worry...AND...the next day, I have a bowel movement, non diarrhea. It is morphine (tastes HORRID...liquorice taste...), but small amount, and I only take it when there's something special going on.Thanks for listening to me, and would love to hear input on this?Sincerely,Chatterbee

Just wish I could get my Dr to prescribe this for me. I too, am 61 and remember wehn I was in grade school and would come home with a belly ache or diahrea, a sip of paragoric and soon I would be outside playing. These new docs are too scared of the ins. companies.

I'm 51 and I remember when you could buy parapectolin (has some paragoric in it)at the drug store. You had to ask the pharmacist for it and I think you may have had to give your name but it was available.A dr gave me a rx for tincture of morphine once, it was extremely hard to find it. It made me really ill (nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress)but it works for you thats great.IMO I think that Dr's are afraid their patients will become addicted to these medications. I believe that if someone is getting relief from a medication they are not abusing it and won't get addicted.
