How are these centers? I would have to travel to see these specialist and don not want to waste the time or money. I am desperate as I need to get some alleviation to get through school and no doctor has been much help so far.

I go to UNC (luckily it happens to be where I go for medical care anyway) and I think the clinic there is very good. The people are knowledgeable, can run all the tests you might need to sort things out, and I got in one of the clinical trials and it really helped me.They also have a lot of information on the link I posted that you might want to check out. They do have informational things for patients (chats, symposiums, newsletters) that can be quite good.

I spent about an hour in conversation with "betterthroughscience"-- BB member you can search for and PM--when I was in Seattle last summer. I was quite impressed with the extent of the testing he outlined, including food types for inflammatory responses, bacteria screens and testing for parasites. (If I understood him rightly, these find most of the causes.) Another member from the Board quoted about $1000 price. There are lots of not too expensive hotels in Seattle. If I didn't have my D under such good control, I would probably have signed up for the testing.Mark

If I am to travel 3000 miles the hospital must be worth it to see. I am at my last wits and need help. I need to find someone who can help me and cure this awful disease. I just dont want to go across the country for nothing.

I fully understand. Try calling the three places mentioned and talking with a doctor/therapist and see if you can get a sense of who will help you. Mark

has anyone been to the center in seattle themselves? Im looking for a doctor, not an alternative doctor or someone who is going to tell me its in my head. There is an underlying problem and im looking for someone who cares to find it not just to the run of a mill tests.

It is a IBS "treatment center" so obviously they understand IBS if the place specializes in IBS. I doubt anyone at any of these IBS clinics or treatment centers will tell you "its all in your head". You should check out some of there websites or call them directly. The place in Seattle has a really informative website. Here is a link to an old post about the Seattle treatment center... http://www.ibsgroup.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=92354It appears they are more focused on bacteria, allergies and such as a cause of IBS and therefore will test you in that manner. I have already had all these tests done or I would probably be willing to give it a shot myself.

Walls, I hope you saw the press release that Jeff posted. If not, this ought to give you a sense of what the IBS Center is about: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2009/12/prweb3364034.htmI recognize your frustration and there are no guarantees; but inaction will not get you where you want to go. If, after you talk with all of these places, you decide that the costs are too great or their approaches are not what you are looking for, maybe get in touch with Now Leap. They may have a distance testing program that will at least not require travel. www.nowleap.com I sat in my own messes for 10 years, trying to isolate my triggers. Nothing was improved by that approach.Mark

I saw that article this morning Mark on my news feed. I love how its more of a business pitch then anything, makes me question wheather i would be willing to hand them my money. Then again, if one feels that food allergies are the cause of there IBS then I suppose that would be the one place to go.

I think they have a large clearance rate from centering on three most likely problems. What they don't seem to do is tell you it is all in your head or that you should increase you fiber. I would suspect that the percentage of those of us who are suffering from this here would probably correspond to the percentage that they clear, plus or minus some. Even if you didn't get an effective treatment, it would remove inflammation from foods, intestinal imbalances and critters from your list of causes, which still beats "Colonoscopy is clear, here, take these meds forever" kind of approach. IBSD88It would be so good to have a specialist centre hear in Scotland, who would understand the condition and how severe it can be for sufferers.I dont travel very well so could not get to London unfortunately. For me somewhere in Glasgow would be ideal.I'll keep hoping!
