I have been taking Immodium for symptoms of Crohn's and IBS for the last six months. The amount I need to take for relief keeps increasing. Is 4-6 tabs per day too much ? How long can I take the drug ?

Hi Jim,My Gastro Doc told me that he has some patients on up to 8 a day indefinetly. If you have to take them you have to take them, what is the alternative? It is always best to take them after you have had a bowel motion, I guess they say that because it would have less to work on.You can always alternate between the Imodium and Lomotil another anti-D medication.Anyway I hope you find what helps you.Numerous people, including myself have found relief with the Caltrate Plus in the Purple and white box.Take care,Rachel

Jim, I have been taking Immodium regularly for about 3 years now with no problem. I take 3-4 pills per day, basically one with each meal. Have never had any adverse affects of this longterm use, really. Also, everyone says the Caltrate is great, so I am looking into starting that. Good luck!

Definitely try the Caltrate! Take two a day (Caltrate plus in the purple and white bottle) and lower your immodium dosage and after a few weeks you'll definitely see results. I used to take up to three Imodium a day and now I only ever take it if I get a bout of D, which is maybe a few times a month now!!Good luck!
