Iodine for hypothyroidism?

590 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  flux
A naturopath recommended that I take Lugol's Iodine every day (2-3 drops in 2 cups of water) for 10 days, and then every other day as a remedy for suspected hypothyroidism. Has anyone ever heard of this/tried this before? I'm pretty sure I'm not allergic to shellfish, so I don't think I'd have an allergic reaction to it, but I don't really like the idea of ingesting iodine into my body (then again, I don't like the idea of always ingesting drugs into my body either!). Any thoughts on this approach. I am going to see my medical doctor to have tests done to see if I do, indeed, have hypothyroidism, but is this a possible substitute for thyroid drugs or just a "cleanser"?

'suspected'? maybe you should have your doctor test you first before you try anything.. regular table salt usually has iodine added
I agree with Elariel's statement completely.
